What they need
🚨 Senior Platform Engineer | AWS | Kubernetes | Outside IR35 | £450–475 per day
I’m working on a great new contract opportunity for a Senior Platform Engineer to join a team looking to simplify its infrastructure, improve platform reliability and build a more efficient, scalable cloud environment following a recent product pivot.
This is a hands-on engineering role suited to someone with a strong background in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), who enjoys taking ownership of production environments and finding better ways to build, automate and operate infrastructure.
The team is particularly interested in engineers who are embracing AI tools and agents in their day-to-day workflows, using them to accelerate development, automate infrastructure tasks and improve operational efficiency.
📍 Location: Fully remote (UK-based candidates only)
💰 Day rate: £450–475
📄 Contract: 6 months, Outside IR35
🔄 Extension: Potential to convert to a permanent position
📅 Start date: 2nd November
🎯 Interview process: 2 stages
🛠️ What you’ll be doing
🔹 Cloud infrastructure: Build, manage and operate multi-region AWS infrastructure, using Terraform or OpenTofu alongside Spacelift and ArgoCD.
🔹 Kubernetes & EKS: Take ownership of production Kubernetes environments, covering cluster upgrades, autoscaling, networking, reliability and cost optimisation.
🔹 Infrastructure automation: Develop automation using Python or Go to reduce manual intervention, streamline operational processes and improve platform consistency.
🔹 CI/CD & deployment: Improve deployment pipelines and GitOps workflows, ensuring infrastructure and applications can be delivered reliably and efficiently.
🔹 Observability & security: Strengthen monitoring, alerting and security controls to improve visibility, operational resilience and the overall reliability of the platform.
🔹 AI-driven engineering: Use AI agents and coding tools, such as Claude Code, to plan, build, troubleshoot and operate infrastructure more effectively.
🔹 Platform simplification: Help reduce unnecessary complexity across the existing environment, improving maintainability and establishing more consistent, repeatable infrastructure practices.
✅ What I’m looking for
🔹 5+ years’ experience in Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering, SRE or a closely related discipline.
🔹 Strong hands-on experience with AWS, including designing, building and operating cloud infrastructure in production.
🔹 Deep experience with Terraform or OpenTofu for infrastructure as code.
🔹 Production Kubernetes experience, ideally with AWS EKS, including upgrades, networking, autoscaling and ongoing operational support.
🔹 Strong scripting or software engineering skills using Python or Go to automate infrastructure and operational tasks.
🔹 Experience improving CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, alerting, security and platform reliability.
🔹 A proactive engineering mindset, with the ability to identify inefficiencies, simplify systems and take ownership of technical challenges.
🔹 Practical experience using AI tools and agents to support engineering workflows. The team is particularly interested in engineers who understand how to use tools such as Claude Code to plan and execute technical work, rather than simply using AI for basic code completion.
⭐ Additional experience that would be beneficial
Experience automating Windows server fleets running on AWS EC2 would be a strong advantage, particularly using EC2 Image Builder and AWS Systems Manager.
The environment already has a golden AMI in place, so the focus will be on building reliable automation around:
🔹 Scheduled Windows patching and maintenance.
🔹 Automated AMI rebuilds and image lifecycle management.
🔹 Safe instance replacement following image updates.
🔹 Systems Manager Patch Manager and Inventory.
🔹 Eliminating manually configured virtual machines in favour of repeatable, automated infrastructure.
You don’t need to tick every nice-to-have box, but strong core AWS, Terraform/OpenTofu and Kubernetes experience is essential.
👀 Who would suit this opportunity?
Someone who enjoys being hands-on, is comfortable working autonomously in a remote environment and wants to make a tangible impact on how a platform is built and operated.
If you combine solid infrastructure and SRE fundamentals with a genuine interest in AI-assisted engineering, this is an opportunity to take ownership of meaningful technical challenges within an evolving environment.
📩 Interested? Send me a message with your latest CV, and I’ll arrange a call to talk through the opportunity in more detail.
Other offers great for you!
