What they need

About the role

Do you love play, creativity, community and making things happen?

Wiltshire Scrapstore is looking for an enthusiastic, creative and organised PlayPod Lead to join our team.

This is a varied, practical role combining PlayPod training and mentoring, play development, and community outreach. You’ll work with schools, organisations, community groups and people of all ages, helping them make the most of play and creative opportunities.

No two days will be the same. One day you could be delivering PlayPod training in a school, the next preparing creative resources or mentoring staff

About Wiltshire Scrapstore

Wiltshire Scrapstore is an award-winning environmental and community charity situated on the outskirts of Lacock. We collect resources that would otherwise go to landfill and give them a second life through arts, crafts, play, DIY and community projects.

We have an onsite café and an Eco shop in the village of Lacock.

We love the challenge of turning waste materials into opportunities for creativity, learning and play.

What you'll be doing

PlayPod & Play Development

You will:

  • Deliver the nationally accredited Scrapstore PlayPod programme, including training, mentoring, support and assessment for schools and settings. Full training will be provided.
  • Provide ongoing support to PlayPod schools by email, phone and refresher training
  • Mentor school staff
  • Support schools to develop quality, inclusive play opportunities and advocate for childrens’ right to play
  • Model good play work practice, including conflict resolution and a risk-benefit approach.

Practical & Team Responsibilities

The role also involves:

  • Working with the warehouse team to organise, prepare and deliver loose-part resources and play equipment.
  • Loading and unloading resources from vehicles and into PlayPods.
  • Travelling to schools and settings across Wiltshire and beyond.
  • Using email, databases and other IT systems.
  • Attending team meetings, training, reviews and 1:1s.
  • Working within organisational, health and safety and safeguarding procedures.
  • Being flexible and adapting to the changing needs of the organisation and its projects.

About you

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Creative, enthusiastic and proactive
  • Organised and able to manage a varied workload
  • Confident working with people of different ages and backgrounds
  • A good communicator with strong interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable delivering training, mentoring and workshops
  • Practical and happy working in a hands-on environment
  • Able to work independently and as part of a small team
  • Flexible and able to adapt when priorities change
  • Positive and solution-focused
  • Interested in play, creativity, reuse and community work

Experience of working with volunteers, schools, playwork or community groups would be an advantage, but we're interested in hearing from people who can demonstrate the right skills and attitude.

Essential requirements

  • Full clean driving licence
  • Desirable to have a minimum Level 3 AET / PTTLS qualification, with a willingness to undertake further training. Full PlayPod training will be provided.
  • Ability to travel to schools/settings and arrive in good time, including some early mornings and long days.
  • The hours will be varied, especially when a PlayPod is installed in a new setting
  • Physically able to undertake the practical elements of the role, including cleaning, and prepping play equipment. An eye for detail is important.

· This is an active role and includes outdoor work throughout the year, including in challenging weather conditions. The role can involve early starts, travel and physical activity, including loading and unloading equipment.
