Plumber

The Department Of Facilities And Services Is Seeking: Plumber Duration: Full-Time 40 Hours per week including benefits

DUTIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Under direction does general plumbing work involved

in installation and maintenance of plumbing facilities and systems; works with various machines and hand tools common to the plumbing trade; may work from sketches, plans and specifications in accordance with the plumbing code or accepted trade policies; takes the lead over and gives assignments to those assigned as helpers; performs other related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Installs, repairs, and/or maintains gas, water and waste disposal pipes in facilities.

Troubleshoots malfunctions and makes emergency and permanent repairs . Removes stoppages from piping and toilet, sink and other facilities

Works with wrought iron, cast iron, butt welded, soil, asbestos composition, and copper pipes.

Installs and repairs piping systems using flanged, screwed, bell and spigot compression, and soldered pipes.

Is familiar with the nomenclature, use, and installation of reducing, pressure relief, surge check, float, gate, globe and other types of valves, unions, sleeves, bushings, reducers, and other fittings.

Is responsible for measuring and fitting of piping and facilities.

Interprets graphic symbols used on piping drawings.

Prepares time and material estimates

Perform tests on work in progress and complete work.

Maintain records.

Will be required to learn and utilize various types of electronic and manual recording and information systems used by the County.

REQUIREMENTS: EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience in plumbing work involving a variety of

the layout, construction, repair, and maintenance tasks.

LICENSE: Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.

Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license

valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather

than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential

duties of the position.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of methods and problems involved in plumbing work.

Ability to understand, remember, and carry out written and oral directions

Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute as needed and use needed equipment, materials and supplies.

Ability to take safety precautions.

Ability to prepare reports of equipment and materials used, time

spent, and work completed.

Ability to maintain records.

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in

English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as

acceptable forms of communication.
