Location: Bedfordshire – covering local and surrounding areas
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Schedule: Monday to Friday, with participation in the on-call rota where required

About PJH Co. Ltd

PJH Co. Ltd is a growing multi-discipline building services contractor based in Bedfordshire, delivering reactive maintenance, planned works and larger projects across commercial and domestic environments.

Our services cover plumbing and heating, HVAC, electrical, renewables, facilities management, carpentry and associated building services.

Due to continued growth within our Repairs, Service, Maintenance & Facilities Management division, we are looking for an experienced Drainage Engineer with plumbing capabilities to join our team.

We have invested in a dedicated drainage jetting van and specialist drainage equipment, and we are looking for an experienced engineer to take a leading role in delivering and developing this service.

The Role

This is primarily a drainage engineering position, with additional plumbing works undertaken where required.

You will be responsible for attending reactive drainage call-outs, planned drainage maintenance, investigations and remedial works across a range of commercial and domestic properties.

You will have access to PJH's dedicated drainage jetting van, allowing you to attend sites fully equipped to diagnose and resolve drainage issues efficiently.

Alongside drainage works, you will also support our wider reactive maintenance operation with general plumbing repairs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend reactive and planned drainage call-outs.
  • Operate our dedicated drainage jetting van and associated equipment.
  • Carry out high-pressure water jetting.
  • Diagnose and clear blocked drains, toilets, sinks, gullies and waste systems.
  • Carry out mechanical drain clearance.
  • Undertake CCTV drainage inspections.
  • Identify collapsed, damaged or defective drainage systems.
  • Investigate recurring drainage problems and recommend permanent solutions.
  • Carry out drainage surveys and provide clear reports on findings.
  • Complete external and internal drainage repairs where appropriate.
  • Attend emergency drainage incidents including blockages, flooding and overflowing systems.
  • Carry out preventative drainage maintenance and planned jetting.
  • Maintain the drainage van, jetting equipment, cameras, tools and associated equipment.
  • Carry out general plumbing repairs and reactive maintenance when required.
  • Repair or replace taps, toilets, valves, wastes, traps and associated pipework.
  • Diagnose leaks and plumbing faults.
  • Undertake minor pipework alterations and repairs.
  • Identify additional remedial works and provide accurate information for quotations.
  • Complete detailed job reports and upload photographs through our job management system.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, site teams and facilities managers.
  • Work safely and in accordance with company procedures and relevant health and safety requirements.

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate should have:

  • Previous professional drainage experience.
  • Strong experience dealing with reactive drainage call-outs.
  • Experience operating high-pressure water jetting equipment.
  • Experience with CCTV drainage inspections.
  • Good general plumbing knowledge and practical plumbing ability.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Confidence working independently and managing jobs from diagnosis through to completion.
  • Ability to accurately identify and report follow-on works.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • A professional and presentable approach when attending customer sites.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Experience working within commercial facilities management and reactive maintenance would be particularly beneficial.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Plumbing qualifications such as NVQ Level 2 or Level 3.
  • High-pressure water jetting qualifications.
  • Water Jetting Association training.
  • Confined space training.
  • CCTV drainage surveying experience.
  • Drain lining or patch repair experience.
  • Root cutting and descaling experience.
  • Pump and sewage pumping station experience.
  • Experience working within hospitality, retail, healthcare or commercial environments.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Dedicated drainage jetting van.
  • Fuel card.
  • Specialist drainage equipment.
  • Company uniform.
  • Mobile phone/job management system.
  • Overtime opportunities.
  • On-call opportunities.
  • Ongoing training and development.
  • Opportunity to help grow PJH's drainage division.
  • Varied work across commercial, facilities management and domestic customers.
  • Support from an established office and operations team.
  • Career progression within a growing multi-discipline contractor.

The Person

We are looking for someone who can take real ownership of our drainage work.

You should be comfortable arriving at a site, investigating the problem thoroughly, using the drainage equipment available to you and either resolving the issue or identifying the appropriate next stage of remedial work.

We want someone who takes pride in their van and equipment, provides a professional service to customers and can become a key part of the continued growth of PJH's drainage offering.

This role would particularly suit an experienced drainage engineer who also has a plumbing background and wants a varied, long-term position within an expanding company.

About PJH

PJH Co. Ltd works with a growing portfolio of commercial, facilities management and domestic customers across Bedfordshire and surrounding areas, alongside nationwide project work.

We are continuing to expand our Repairs, Service, Maintenance & Facilities Management operation and are looking for experienced engineers who want to grow with the business.
