Plumbing Designer (LATAM)

Position Overview

 

Upstart AEC is seeking a Senior Plumbing Designer for a full-time, fully remote position supporting a U.S.-based MEP engineering team. You will be responsible for the advanced technical design and documentation of complex plumbing systems from concept through construction documents. The role requires substantial technical judgment to deliver complete, code-compliant, constructible, and serviceable solutions with minimal guidance. You will primarily collaborate with project managers, design leaders, and engineering peers rather than serving in a client-facing capacity.  

Key Responsibilities

 

• Design complex plumbing systems, including high-rise systems, booster pumps, hot-water recirculation, waste treatment, emergency showers, commercial heat-pump water heaters, boiler systems, and solar thermal systems.

• Produce detailed and complete designs that reduce construction changes and potential liability exposure.

• Write and edit project specifications for standard and unique project requirements.

• Perform waste, water, gas, storm, distribution-piping, and energy or economic comparative calculations.

• Size, select, and schedule plumbing equipment and lay out complex equipment rooms for constructible installation, access, and service.

• Develop plumbing-system diagrams that identify required components and operating parameters for complete and operational systems.

• Apply applicable plumbing, building, energy, and related codes, ordinances, and standards.

• Develop and edit two-dimensional drawings in AutoCAD and three-dimensional models in Revit.

• Write and edit advanced control sequences of operation, diagrams, and point lists.

• Conduct independent quality-control checks and follow established design and technical standards.

• Perform assigned work within project budgets and identify potential scope changes early.

 

Required Skills

 

• 8+ years of experience in MEP consulting and the design of complex plumbing systems.

• Strong knowledge of plumbing, building, energy, and related codes and standards.

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit for plumbing design and documentation.

• Ability to perform waste, water, gas, storm, distribution-piping, and related design calculations.

• Experience sizing and selecting plumbing equipment and developing complex equipment-room layouts.

• Ability to produce complete specifications, diagrams, control sequences, schedules, and coordinated construction documents.

• Ability to define technical problems, evaluate data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

• Excellent organization and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize work in a fluid environment.

• Ability to work independently, maintain attention to detail, and consistently meet project deadlines.

• Professional written and verbal English sufficient for technical correspondence and team collaboration.

 

Nice-to-Have Skills

 

• Experience designing high-rise plumbing systems or other technically complex building types.

• Experience with commercial heat-pump water-heater systems, boiler plants, solar thermal systems, or waste-treatment systems.

• Prior experience supporting U.S.-based projects and working with U.S. customary units and documentation standards.

• Familiarity with California plumbing, building, or energy-code requirements.
