What they need
We are seeking an exceptional Plumbing General Manager with a proven track record of successfully operating, managing, and growing a residential plumbing service business.
This is not an entry-level management position. We are looking for an experienced business operator who understands every aspect of running a profitable plumbing division, from financial performance and gross margins to sales systems, technician development, customer satisfaction, and operational execution.
The ideal candidate is a natural leader who inspires confidence, develops people, creates accountability, and builds a team that genuinely wants to follow their leadership.
This individual must be equally comfortable reviewing an income statement, coaching a technician, developing a sales strategy, and making decisions that drive sustainable revenue and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Profitability
- Take full ownership of departmental P&L performance, revenue, expenses, and profitability.
- Demonstrate expert-level understanding of income statements, gross profit, gross margins, operating expenses, and EBITDA.
- Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, labor costs, material costs, and departmental financial objectives.
- Analyze financial performance, identify opportunities, and implement strategies to improve profitability.
- Understand how pricing, technician productivity, conversion rates, average tickets, and labor efficiency impact the bottom line.
Sales Leadership & Revenue Growth
- Develop, implement, and manage proven residential plumbing sales systems and processes.
- Lead technician sales training, including customer communication, presenting options, overcoming objections, and closing opportunities.
- Drive improvements in conversion rates, average tickets, revenue per technician, and overall sales performance.
- Establish measurable sales expectations and provide consistent coaching and accountability.
- Identify opportunities to grow service, repair, replacement, and installation revenue while maintaining customer trust.
Leadership & Team Development
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing plumbing professionals.
- Create a positive, performance-driven culture built on respect, accountability, professionalism, and teamwork.
- Lead by example with integrity, consistency, strong communication, and sound judgment.
- Develop supervisors and technicians into stronger professionals through structured coaching and training.
- Address performance challenges directly, professionally, and constructively.
- Be the type of leader employees respect, trust, and genuinely want to work for.
Operations & Business Performance
- Oversee daily plumbing service, repair, replacement, and installation operations.
- Manage scheduling, dispatch efficiency, technician productivity, and job profitability.
- Establish and enforce consistent operating procedures, quality standards, and customer service expectations.
- Utilize business management software, reporting tools, and KPI dashboards to monitor results.
- Identify operational inefficiencies and implement sustainable improvements.
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety standards, licensing requirements, and company policies.
Minimum Qualifications — Required
- Minimum five (5) years of direct experience running or leading a residential plumbing company or division, with responsibility for its financial and operational performance.
- Must have had full access to and direct management responsibility for departmental or company income statements (P&L).
- Expert-level ability to read, analyze, interpret, and manage income statements, including gross profit, gross margin percentages, operating expenses, and EBITDA.
- Demonstrated mastery of gross margin calculations, pricing strategies, labor efficiency, and job profitability.
- Extensive experience developing, implementing, and managing residential plumbing sales systems.
- Proven ability to personally train, coach, and develop plumbing technicians in sales, customer communication, and service presentation.
- Documented history of improving revenue, profitability, conversion rates, and operational performance.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with Excel, financial reporting, and operational KPIs.
- Proven ability to build, motivate, and retain high-performing teams.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
The Leader We Want
We are not looking for someone who simply manages schedules, handles complaints, or supervises technicians.
We want a business leader who:
- Understands the numbers and knows how to turn financial information into results.
- Knows how to build a sales culture without compromising integrity or customer trust.
- Can train technicians to become confident, professional salespeople.
- Takes ownership of challenges rather than making excuses.
- Holds people accountable while treating them with dignity and respect.
- Leads from the front, develops future leaders, and earns the trust of the team.
- Understands that sustainable profitability comes from great people, strong systems, and consistent execution.
Our Expectations
Success in this position will be measured by revenue growth, gross margin performance, EBITDA, technician productivity, sales conversion, customer satisfaction, employee retention, and the overall strength of the plumbing department.
If you have not personally managed a plumbing operation with full income statement responsibility, this is not the right position.
We are looking for a proven operator, an exceptional sales coach, a financially disciplined manager, and, above all, a leader people want to follow.
