About Us

Greater Hume Council is a large rural Council with a focus on responsibility, growth and sustainability. We are based in southern New South Wales, right near the Murray River, bordering Victoria and the local government areas of Albury, Federation, Lockhart, Snowy Valleys and Wagga Wagga Councils.

We offer a broad range of services such as swimming pools, libraries and early year's services through to waste collection, planning permits and major capital works development. Our staff appreciate our flexible approach to work life balance and our friendly, inclusive atmosphere. We enjoy delivering a high standard of meaningful, varied work to our diverse rural communities.

Now Hiring Pool Lifeguards - 2026/2027 Season

Casual Positions, Multiple Locations, November 2026 to March 2027

Are you passionate about water safety and enjoy working outdoors? Whether you are just starting out as a Lifeguard or already have lifeguarding experience, we want to hear from you!

We are now recruiting entry level and experienced lifeguards for the upcoming 2026/2027 pool season. If you are aged 16 or over, enjoy being part of a team and would like to play a vital role in promoting safety in and around the water, this could be a summer opportunity for you. A variety of shifts are available, ranging from early morning swims from 6am to closing the pool up to 7pm. We are offering $39.40 gross per hour (including 25% casual loading) between Monday to Friday for Lifeguards who are aged 18 or over, plus penalty rates where they apply.

What You will be Doing

As a Pool Lifeguard, your primary responsibility is ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all pool users. You will:

  • Supervise 1-3 pools and the surrounding pool areas
  • Monitor patron safety both in and around the pool area
  • Respond promptly and professionally to emergency situations
  • Report incidents and risks in accordance with safety procedures
  • Promote water safety and responsible behaviour among patrons.

Required Qualifications and Licences

To be considered for a Pool Lifeguard position, you must hold, or be willing to obtain the following prior to commencing as a pool lifeguard:

  • NSW Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard Certificate
  • Provide CPR Certificate
  • Provide First Aid Certificate
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance - Employee Status

The NSW Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard qualification is an essential requirement, and applicants are required to obtain this qualification at their own expense.

Royal Life Saving NSW offers Pool Lifeguard courses regularly throughout regional NSW. Current schedules and enrolment options are available through the NSW training portal.

Because places are limited and demand is high, it is advisable to monitor the NSW course calendar frequently and book early when dates are released.

  • Flexible and available to work throughout the season (November 2026 to March 2027)
