What they need

Be at the centre of New Zealand's largest port operation.

Port of Tauranga is New Zealand's leading freight gateway, connecting our exporters and importers with the world. As a Port Control Officer, you'll play a critical role in coordinating vessel movements and supporting the safe, efficient flow of activity across one of the country's busiest and most dynamic operational environments.

Working from our Port Control Centre, you'll be responsible for monitoring operations, coordinating resources, communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, and responding to changing operational requirements as they arise. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two shifts are the same, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.

About the Role

This is an operational role that sits at the heart of our marine operations.

You'll work closely with pilots, vessel agents, shipping lines, operational teams, contractors and service providers to ensure vessel movements are coordinated safely and efficiently. Using specialist systems and communication networks, you'll maintain situational awareness across the port while helping manage daily operations, operational disruptions and emergency situations.

Success in this role requires strong judgement, exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and focused when priorities shift.

What You'll Bring

We're interested in hearing from people who have experience in operational environments where coordination, communication and decision-making are critical.

Ideally you'll bring:

  • Experience in a port, maritime, logistics, transport, aviation, emergency services or similar operational environment.
  • Operational coordination and planning experience.
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Strong stakeholder communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working within safety-critical or highly regulated environments.
  • Confidence using technology and multiple operating systems simultaneously.

Why Join Us?

At Port of Tauranga you'll be joining an organisation that plays a vital role in New Zealand's economy and supply chain.

We offer:

  • A unique and rewarding operational career.
  • Competitive remuneration and benefits.
  • The opportunity to work at the heart of New Zealand's largest and most successful port.

If you're looking for a role where your decisions matter, your days are varied, and you can make a genuine impact on the success of our operations, we'd love to hear from you.

Closing date: 20 October 2026
