About the Job

Our client, a leading global asset manager with a significant presence in Hong Kong, is seeking an ETF Portfolio Manager to join its team. The firm has a strong reputation in the ETF space and offers a dynamic, collaborative environment focused on innovation and product development. It manages a diverse range of strategies, including active and passive ETFs across equities, fixed income, and multi-asset classes.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing both active and passive ETF portfolios, developing investment strategies, and contributing to the full lifecycle of ETF products. You will work closely with the investment strategy team, sales, and external counterparties to implement quantitative and fundamental investment solutions, conduct macro and industry research, and support the launch of new ETF products. This is a hands-on opportunity to shape the firm's ETF offerings and drive superior risk-adjusted performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage active and passive ETF portfolios, including developing and implementing investment portfolio strategies.
  • Design, backtest, and construct quantitative and fundamental (quantamental) ETF investment portfolio solutions.
  • Apply quantitative, fundamental, and risk management approaches to design thematic investment indices that capture structural market changes.
  • Monitor and manage quantitative ETF trading strategies, including statistical arbitrage, time series, and momentum trading.
  • Construct and backtest intraday CTA strategies using volatility-adjusted factors and intraday signals.
  • Conduct macro, industry, sector, and future mega-trend research, covering areas such as biotech, electric vehicles, and semiconductors.
  • Perform US macro and multi-asset research, maintaining databases on national accounts, labor, inflation, monetary/fiscal policy, and non-government surveys.
  • Analyze potential policy rate paths and long-term yield dynamics to anchor asset outlooks.
  • Focus on macro trends and index strategies for US, JP, and HK markets.
  • Product Development & Management:
  • Participate in and contribute to new ETF product ideas, delivering research on macroeconomics, index characteristics, and ETF products.
  • Prepare potential ETF ideas with research output, including GCC USD Bonds ETF, India Govt Bonds ETF, Active FI ETF, APAC REITs ETF, and HK High Dividend ETF.
  • Prepare PCF files for creation and redemption, and manage in-kind orders.
  • Manage futures-based ETF rolling and cash equity ETF rebalance security pools.
  • Conduct monthly ETF performance evaluation by decomposing rebalance costs and TER impact.
  • Collaborate with sales to promote ETFs, providing peer product analysis and market views.
  • Communicate with index providers for new ETF ideas and connect with sell-side counterparties for market updates and new asset class briefings.
  • Transfer market views and trading conviction into ETF decks for PM roadshows and present pitch ideas to FoF portfolio committees.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Finance or a related field; Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as an ETF Portfolio Manager or in a similar role, managing both active and passive ETFs.
  • Experience in quantitative research, index solutions design, and ETF trading strategies.
  • Background in asset management, with exposure to SFC Type 9 regulated activities.
  • Experience with fund launch preparation for strategies in cryptocurrency, equity, fixed income, and multi-asset.
  • CFA Charterholder.
  • SFC Type 4 & 9 licenses.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with proficiency in backtesting and building investment frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of macroeconomics, multi-asset research, and index strategies.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with external partners.
  • Language proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
