[Porto] Energy Systems Engineer

The client is a global engineering group with strong positioning in energy infrastructure, transportation, and industrial automation. Their Energy Systems Automation Business Unit is looking to bring in an experienced Energy Systems Engineer to design and deliver complex solutions in the areas of Monitoring, Control, and Protection of Energy Systems.

This is a technically demanding, cross-functional role that combines architecture definition, hands-on configuration, client collaboration, and junior team mentoring. The focus is exclusively on energy systems: substations, hydroelectric plants, and electrical power networks.

Profiles from industrial/manufacturing automation will not be considered.

⚠️ This is a full-time position, On-site (approx. 70% office/workshop, 30% field)

Goals and Deliverables

• Define technical architecture and system specifications for substation automation and protection solutions (and other energy-sector applications)

• Produce functional and technical specifications for complex solutions, ensuring compliance with client requirements

• Select and specify appropriate equipment and technologies for each solution

• Support the Project Manager on planning activities and technical coordination with clients and partners

• Supervise and actively participate in configuration, testing, validation, and commissioning activities

• Produce technical documentation including operation, maintenance, and training plans

• Mentor and support junior engineers, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices

• Participate in technical forums and innovation committees, contributing to the unit's technological development

Experience Required

• Minimum 3-4 years of professional experience in systems engineering within energy systems: substation automation, protection systems, or power control

• Proven experience with the companies and projects operating in this specific market (energy infrastructure, not industrial automation)

• Hands-on experience with data networks and communications in energy environments

• Experience with databases and primary substation equipment

• Exposure to field work (commissioning, on-site testing)

• English fluency is mandatory (French and Spanish are valued)

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (mandatory) ⚠️
