[Porto] Red Hat OpenShift Engineer

Our infrastructure is fully on-premise and covers the complete stack: x86 servers, storage, networking, virtualisation, Kubernetes/OpenShift, backups, and database management.

The team is currently running a strategic platform consolidation programme through 2030, decommissioning legacy systems and migrating workloads to OpenShift. The platform is growing and is treated as a long-term core asset. This role reinforces the Porto-based OpenShift team to support both ongoing operations and the migration programme.

This is a hands-on platform engineering role in a zero-downtime production environment. The expectation is solid operational autonomy on the OpenShift stack from day one, within a structured team reporting to the OpenShift Team Leader.

Goals and deliverables

• Manage, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot Red Hat OpenShift clusters in a production on-premise environment.

• Handle day-2 operations: node management, cluster health monitoring, storage configuration, and networking.

• Participate in the decommissioning of legacy systems and migration of workloads to OpenShift.

• Ensure all platform changes follow formal change management procedures.

• Manage Storage Servers and SAN infrastructure connected to the OpenShift environment.

• Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles to automate platform operations and provisioning.

• Support application teams with platform-level troubleshooting and guidance.

• Produce clear technical documentation for changes, incidents, and procedures.

• Participate in on-call rotation (every 4-5 weeks) to support production environments outside business hours.

Experience Required

• Solid hands-on experience with Red Hat OpenShift in production environments, with clear cluster ownership (not application-layer only).

• Demonstrated experience managing OCP 4.x clusters end-to-end: installation, upgrades, day-2 operations, and troubleshooting.

• Strong understanding of OpenShift architecture: Control Plane, Infra Nodes, and Worker Nodes.

• Familiarity with ACM (Advanced Cluster Management) and ACS (Advanced Cluster Security): solid conceptual knowledge and understanding of how both tools work is required. Hands-on production experience is a strong plus.

• Experience with Storage Server and SAN infrastructure management.

• Hands-on Ansible experience at playbook and role development level, not execution only.

• Experience with CI/CD tooling: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Tekton.

• Experience with GitOps tooling, preferably ArgoCD.

• Familiarity with OVN networking, ingress/egress configuration within OpenShift.

• Familiarity with observability stacks: Filebeat, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Grafana.

• Experience working in structured, process-driven environments with formal change and incident management.
