Portworx Enterprise Engineer - OpenShift

CMK Resources is seeking an experienced Portworx Resident Engineer to support our partner within a large-scale enterprise infrastructure modernization initiative.

This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of Portworx Enterprise within Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes environments. The engineer will support new cluster builds, storage provisioning, capacity planning, and workload migrations as enterprise environments transition from traditional virtualization platforms to modern container-based infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will have direct, hands-on Portworx experience, strong Red Hat OpenShift/Kubernetes and Linux troubleshooting skills, and a solid understanding of enterprise storage technologies.This individual will collaborate closely with platform and infrastructure engineering teams, providing technical guidance during implementation, migration, and troubleshooting activities within an established architecture.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the installation, deployment, configuration, and ongoing operation of Portworx Enterprise within Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes environments.
• Provide hands-on technical guidance during new cluster builds, storage provisioning, and infrastructure configuration.
• Support storage capacity planning and sizing to ensure environments meet workload, performance, and availability requirements.
• Assist with enterprise infrastructure migrations, including the transition of workloads from VMware-based environments to Red Hat OpenShift.
• Support storage integration and data movement activities for virtualized and containerized workloads.
• Troubleshoot complex issues across Portworx, Red Hat OpenShift, Kubernetes, Linux, and underlying storage infrastructure.
• Diagnose and resolve persistent volume, storage class, CSI, storage connectivity, replication, and performance issues.
• Collaborate with platform engineering teams to validate storage configurations and ensure compatibility with the established infrastructure architecture.
• Provide guidance to customer engineering teams during deployment, troubleshooting, maintenance, and migration activities.
• Identify and resolve potential storage-related issues before they impact application deployments or workload migrations.
• Support Portworx availability, resiliency, performance optimization, and operational best practices.
• Partner with technical support and engineering teams to investigate complex issues and coordinate escalations when necessary.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, implementation procedures, and troubleshooting runbooks.
• Participate in scheduled after-hours migration and maintenance windows as needed.

Required Skills & Experience

• Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Portworx, with strong preference for Portworx Enterprise experience.
• Strong experience with Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes, including cluster operations, storage integrations, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting experience, with the ability to diagnose complex operating system, infrastructure, and storage issues.
• Experience implementing and supporting persistent storage solutions within enterprise Kubernetes/OpenShift environments.
• Strong understanding of Kubernetes storage concepts, including Persistent Volumes (PV), Persistent Volume Claims (PVC), StorageClasses, and Container Storage Interface (CSI).
• Experience supporting new cluster builds, infrastructure deployments, and storage configuration activities.
• Experience with storage provisioning, capacity planning, data movement, and performance troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with VMware environments and workload migrations into Red Hat OpenShift or similar Kubernetes-based platforms.
• Experience troubleshooting storage connectivity, persistent volume issues, cluster performance, and infrastructure integration challenges.
• Solid understanding of enterprise storage concepts, including high availability, replication, scalability, and performance optimization.
• Ability to collaborate closely with customer technical teams and provide step-by-step guidance during implementation and troubleshooting.
• Strong independent problem-solving, technical documentation, and communication skills.
• Availability to support occasional after-hours migration and maintenance activities aligned with Pacific Time..
• Must possess a valid passport.
• Must be comfortable supporting scheduled after-hours maintenance and migration windows.

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Previous involvement in VMware-to-OpenShift migration or infrastructure modernization projects.
• Experience supporting storage requirements for both virtual machines and containerized workloads.
• Experience with enterprise storage technologies and backend storage integrations.
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms such as Prometheus and Grafana.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes security concepts, including RBAC, encryption, and network policies.
• Experience with automation technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, Bash, Python, or CI/CD pipelines.
• Portworx certifications or Kubernetes certifications such as CKA or CKS.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for a technically strong, hands-on Portworx engineer who is comfortable working within established Kubernetes/OpenShift architectures and supporting complex infrastructure migration initiatives.

The successful candidate will bring practical experience implementing Portworx, troubleshooting storage-related issues, and collaborating with platform engineering teams to ensure successful cluster deployments and workload transitions.

This individual should be comfortable serving as a technical resource and trusted advisor, guiding engineering teams through implementation activities while proactively identifying and resolving storage challenges.
