What they need
Excellent research is our ambition, pioneering technologies are our mission.
The DECHEMA Research Institute (DFI) is a non-profit foundation under civil law. The core competencies of the institute lie in the key disciplines of materials and corrosion, chemical engineering, and electrochemistry. Around eighty employees work on central problems across the entire spectrum from basic research to application-oriented development to develop resource-saving and ecologically compatible technological solutions for industrial use in various areas.
The synthesis and characterization of catalysts for fuel cells, electrolyzers and batteries is an important research focus in our institute. In this area, a new research project in the Energy Storage & Converters team is expected to start on 01.01.2027. For this project we are looking for a
Postdoctoral Fellow, PhD Student
The position is initially limited to 36 months.
You have a degree in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or physical chemistry. This project requires practical experience in the production of novel materials for the zinc-ion and sodium-ion battery. In-depth expertise in the construction of cylindrical cells is a great advantage.
Our institute has excellent equipment for the manufacturing of button cells, prismatic and cylindrical cells on a laboratory scale as well as for their electrochemical and physical characterization. The R&D project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education, Research, Technology and Space and is carried out in cooperation with German partners from research and industry.
Your main tasks primarily include material synthesis, paste formulation, electrode coating and their characterization in half-cells, laboratory cells, and analytical equipment. We expect a particularly good expertise related to experimental handling and publication in scientific journals as well as above-average motivation for the development of a new type of post-lithium generation battery. Furthermore, expertise in the field of corrosion and self-discharge processes is an advantage. Consolidate scientific knowledge, interest in research, particularly good communication skills, and great commitment, as well as the ability to successfully contribute to an interdisciplinary, international team round off your profile. Excellent written and spoken English language skills are mandatory.
