Poultry Farm manager

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Poultry Farm Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of a poultry farm and ensure optimal bird health, productivity, and profitability. The ideal candidate should have strong practical knowledge of poultry production, farm management, biosecurity, feeding, breeding, and staff supervision.

Job Description

• Manage daily poultry farm operations and ensure smooth production activities.
• Oversee the management of poultry birds depending on the farm's production system.
• Develop and implement feeding, vaccination, medication, breeding, and production schedules.
• Monitor bird health, growth, egg production, mortality, and overall performance.
• Work with veterinarians and animal health professionals to prevent and manage poultry diseases.
• Enforce strict biosecurity, hygiene, and sanitation procedures across the farm.
• Supervise, train, and coordinate farm workers and assign daily responsibilities.
• Monitor feed and water consumption and ensure efficient use of farm resources.
• Manage the procurement, storage, and proper use of feed, vaccines, medications, and other farm inputs.
• Monitor poultry housing, ventilation, lighting, temperature, water systems, cages, and farm equipment.
• Ensure proper brooding and management of chicks at different growth stages.
• Oversee egg collection, grading, storage, and handling where applicable.
• Monitor bird weight, feed conversion, production rates, and mortality records.
• Maintain accurate records of bird numbers, feed usage, vaccinations, medication, mortality, production, and sales.
• Identify operational challenges and implement corrective measures to improve productivity.
• Develop strategies to minimize mortality, feed wastage, disease outbreaks, and production losses.
• Coordinate the sale and distribution of eggs, birds, manure, and other farm products.
• Monitor farm expenses and assist in preparing farm budgets and financial reports.
• Ensure proper disposal of poultry waste and compliance with environmental and safety requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper sanitation of poultry houses and farm surroundings.
• Prepare regular farm performance reports for management.
• Recommend improvements to increase productivity, efficiency, and overall farm profitability.

Requirements/Skills

• Bachelor’s degree, HND, or OND in Animal Science, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture, Veterinary Technology, or a related field.
• Proven years of practical poultry farm management experience.
• Strong knowledge of broiler and/or layer production systems.
• Practical knowledge of poultry nutrition, vaccination, disease prevention, and biosecurity.
• Experience supervising and managing farm workers.
• Good understanding of poultry housing, feeding systems, and farm equipment.
• Strong record-keeping and reporting skills.
• Ability to identify and respond to common poultry health and production challenges.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Physically fit and willing to work in a farm environment.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays when required.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong understanding of farm hygiene, animal welfare, and safety practices.
• Additional professional training or certification in poultry production is an advantage.

Pay: ₦150,000.00 per month
