Job description:
JA Recruitment is seeking a practical, reliable and self-motivated individual to join an established broiler farming business in the Northallerton area.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in doing a job properly and is comfortable working independently throughout the day.
The role involves looking after the birds, monitoring their welfare and helping maintain the sheds, equipment and wider farm environment. We are looking for someone who takes responsibility for their work, notices what needs doing and gets on with the job without needing constant direction.
Previous poultry experience is not essential. The right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are more important than having worked on a broiler farm before.
The role will involve
- Carrying out thorough daily poultry shed inspections and monitoring bird welfare.
- Collecting and recording dead birds, monitoring mortality and reporting any concerns.
- Identifying sick or injured birds and taking appropriate action in line with training and farm welfare procedures.
- Checking feed and water systems, ventilation and general shed conditions.
- Carrying out routine cleaning, practical upkeep and basic maintenance around the unit.
- Identifying problems with equipment or the working environment and taking appropriate action within your capabilities.
- Helping prepare sheds for new flocks and carrying out cleaning and turnaround duties.
- Keeping sheds, equipment and working areas clean, tidy and well maintained.
- Completing routine records and following biosecurity, hygiene and health and safety procedures.
- Planning and prioritising daily tasks, using your initiative to ensure work is completed to a high standard.
What we are looking for
We are interested in someone who:
- Has a strong work ethic and takes pride in their work.
- Is observant and conscientious, particularly when it comes to animal welfare.
- Is practical and enjoys getting hands-on with jobs.
- Can work independently and keep themselves productively occupied throughout the day.
- Takes initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do.
- Is reliable, organised and willing to learn.
Experience in agriculture, livestock, grounds maintenance, engineering, manufacturing or another practical working environment would be useful, but is not essential.
Full training will be provided for the right person.
The opportunity
This is an opportunity to join an established farming operation in a varied practical role where reliability, initiative and a responsible approach to work are valued.
Salary: Competitive, depending on experience.
Working hours: To be confirmed.
