Power BI Developer (Data Visualisation Engineer)

Hours Per Week: 35

Contract Type: Full Time

Contract Type: Permanent
Location: Alderley Park (Wilmslow) or Glasgow
Working Style: Hybrid - 50% from home / 50% office based

Right To Work: Only candidates who possess a valid right to work in the UK or Eligibility to work in Ireland will be able to undertake this role. Unfortunately, Royal London are unable to offer visa sponsorship

We’re looking for a technically minded Power BI Developer who wants to go beyond dashboard development and help shape the future of customer reporting at Royal London. You’ll join a product team within our Group Data & AI Office delivering customer reporting data products across the organisation. Consumer Duty reporting remains an important focus, while the team continues to build a trusted, consistent source of customer reporting data.

This is an opportunity to take ownership, influence technical direction and modernise how reporting solutions are developed, controlled and deployed. You’ll work with technologies including Power BI, Databricks, semantic models, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines and YAML-based deployment processes.

About the opportunity:

  • Own and develop Power BI semantic models that support high-quality customer reporting.
  • Improve version control, deployment processes and software development lifecycle practices.
  • Implement and enhance CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code and YAML-based deployment capabilities.
  • Champion Data DevOps practices and help the team establish effective, sustainable ways of working.
  • Explore opportunities for AI-enabled reporting and Agentic BI.
  • Research emerging technologies and introduce practical new tools and approaches. Influence technical direction while working collaboratively in an Agile, Kanban-based product team.

About you:

You’ll bring strong Power BI expertise and an engineering mindset, with an interest in developing reliable, scalable reporting solutions. We’re interested in people from a range of backgrounds, including Power BI development, software engineering, data engineering, data analysis and infrastructure engineering.

We’re looking for experience or knowledge in:

  • Power BI and Power BI semantic models.
  • Microsoft Fabric.
  • Software development lifecycle practices.
  • CI/CD implementation, version control and deployment management.
  • YAML pipelines and Infrastructure as Code concepts. Data modelling, including facts and dimensions.

Experience with Databricks or a similar data warehousing technology, Agile ways of working, or AI-enabled reporting would be valuable, but isn’t essential. Financial services experience is also welcome, although it isn’t required.

This opportunity would suit someone from a software engineering background, who is keen to apply your skills to data and reporting.

What you’ll get from the role

You’ll have the autonomy to identify opportunities, recommend improvements and help shape our reporting engineering capability. With meaningful ownership across Data DevOps, semantic modelling and deployment practices, you’ll be able to build your expertise and make a visible contribution.

We’ll encourage you to keep learning through training, certifications, conferences, industry networking and dedicated research and development. As our data product landscape grows, the role also offers opportunities to develop towards more senior technical or leadership positions.

If you feel you’d be a great fit for Royal London but don’t meet every requirement, we’d still love to hear from you. Research shows some candidates are less likely to apply unless they meet 100% of the criteria - if you meet most requirements and are keen to learn, we encourage you to apply!
