Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Power BI Developer / Specialist to design, develop and deliver high-quality Power BI solutions. The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders and data teams to turn data into clear, actionable insights through well-designed reports, dashboards and semantic models.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain Power BI reports and dashboards that meet business requirements.
• Build robust data models and semantic layers optimised for performance and usability.
• Write efficient DAX measures and calculated columns.
• Develop and optimise Power Query (M) transformations.
• Collaborate with data engineers and business users to ensure data quality and accurate reporting.
• Implement best practices for report design, governance and performance.
• Support the deployment of Power BI solutions into production environments.
• Provide technical documentation and knowledge transfer where required.
• Participate in Agile delivery processes and stakeholder feedback cycles.

Required Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI (report development, data modelling and dashboard design).
• Advanced DAX proficiency.
• Solid experience with Power Query / M.
• Good understanding of data modelling concepts (star schema, relationships, star/snowflake designs).
• Experience working with business stakeholders to gather and refine reporting requirements.
• Ability to optimise Power BI solutions for performance.
• Familiarity with Power BI Service (workspaces, deployment pipelines, security, sharing).
• Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.

Advantageous

• Experience with Azure data platforms (e.g. Azure Synapse, Databricks, Azure Data Factory).
• Knowledge of Microsoft Fabric.
• Exposure to row-level security (RLS) and Power BI governance.
• Previous experience in a consulting or project-based environment.
• Microsoft PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) certification or equivalent.

Working Arrangement

• Hybrid – based in Johannesburg.
• Contract role.
