Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced Power BI Solutions Architect to own the architecture, development, and governance of our client's enterprise Power BI solutions. This is a hands-on role responsible for designing solutions from the underlying data sources through the semantic model, reporting layer, security, deployment, and ongoing optimization.

The ideal candidate has deep expertise in Power BI, DAX, semantic modeling, SQL, Snowflake, and SSAS Tabular, along with experience implementing modern DevOps practices and AI-assisted development workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and develop scalable, enterprise-level Power BI solutions from source systems through dashboards and reports.
• Own the design and evolution of Power BI semantic models, including data structures, relationships, measures, calculations, and business logic.
• Develop advanced DAX and optimize models and reports for performance and scalability.
• Design dimensional models using star schema, fact and dimension tables, and other enterprise data-modeling best practices.
• Integrate Power BI with enterprise data sources, including Snowflake, SQL Server, SSAS Tabular, and other relational and analytical platforms.
• Establish Power BI architecture standards for workspaces, datasets/semantic models, reports, security, deployment, and governance.
• Implement and maintain Row-Level Security (RLS) and other enterprise security requirements.
• Work closely with data engineering teams to ensure source data and pipelines support reliable, scalable BI solutions.
• Modernize legacy Power BI and SSAS solutions and establish reusable architecture patterns.
• Implement source control and automated deployment processes using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
• Work with PBIP, TMDL, Model.bim, and other Power BI development artifacts to support source-controlled development.
• Use tools such as Tabular Editor, DAX Studio, and Power BI performance tools to develop, analyze, and optimize solutions.
• Establish development standards, documentation, naming conventions, and governance practices.
• Troubleshoot complex issues involving Power BI models, DAX, data sources, security, refresh, and performance.
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate analytical and reporting requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to Power BI developers and analytics teams.
• Evaluate and incorporate AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, testing, documentation, and solution development.

AI-Assisted Development

This organization is actively incorporating AI into the BI development lifecycle. The Solutions Architect will be expected to use AI tools as part of their development workflow rather than simply having general familiarity with AI.

Experience with tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or ChatGPT is highly valued, particularly for:

• Developing and reviewing DAX and SQL.
• Creating and maintaining Power BI models and project files.
• Generating documentation and technical specifications.
• Automating repetitive development and testing tasks.
• Building reusable development skills, prompts, or workflows.
• Working with AI agents, sub-agents, model switching, and MCP-based integrations where appropriate.
• Connecting AI-assisted development workflows to tools such as Snowflake, SQL Server, Jira, GitHub, or other development platforms.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Data Engineering.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Power BI in an enterprise environment.
• Advanced DAX and Power BI data-modeling expertise.
• Strong knowledge of Power BI semantic models and enterprise BI architecture.
• Strong SQL skills with experience working with large-scale relational databases and data warehouses.
• Experience with Snowflake and/or SQL Server.
• Experience with SSAS Tabular or similar semantic-modeling technologies.
• Strong understanding of dimensional modeling, star schemas, facts, dimensions, and data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with Power BI security, RLS, workspace architecture, governance, and deployment.
• Experience with source control and CI/CD for Power BI development.
• Experience with Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions.
• Experience working with PBIP, TMDL, Model.bim, or comparable Power BI project artifacts.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or other AI-assisted coding/development tools.
• Experience developing an AI-first or agentic development workflow.
• Experience with MCP (Model Context Protocol) and connecting AI tools to enterprise data or development systems.
• Experience with Power BI REST APIs and XMLA endpoints.
• Experience with Tabular Editor and DAX Studio.
• Experience implementing automated data-quality or BI validation processes.
• Experience with Git-based Power BI development and multi-repository environments.
• Microsoft Power BI or Azure certifications.
