What they need
Objective The Power Electronics Failure Analysis Engineer is responsible for investigating complex hardware and system failures across Alpitronic's DC fast-charging products. This role performs hands-on electrical and component-level analysis of field returns and production units to identify root causes, validate corrective actions, and improve product reliability.
Working closely with R&D, Quality, Production, Service, Logistics and Procurement, this engineer will translate failure data into actionable product and process improvements. The ideal candidate combines strong power-electronics expertise with hands-on troubleshooting experience in high-voltage systems and is comfortable communicating technical findings to both engineering teams and customers.
Responsibilities Failure Analysis & Root Cause
- Perform detailed electrical, component and system-level failure analysis on DC fast-charging equipment, field returns and production units.
- Reproduce failures through structured laboratory testing and isolate root causes using electrical measurements, system data, schematics and diagnostic tools.
- Apply structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, FMEA, RCA and fault-tree analysis.
- Distinguish between design, component, manufacturing, supplier, installation and field-related failure modes.
Testing & Corrective Action
- Develop test methods to reproduce failures and validate proposed corrective actions.
- Recommend repair strategies, product improvements and preventive actions based on analysis findings.
- Partner with Engineering and Quality to validate corrective actions before implementation.
- Support continuous improvement of diagnostic procedures, test equipment and analysis methods.
Product & Field Reliability
- Analyze recurring failure trends across field and production populations.
- Use failure data to identify systemic reliability risks and prioritize investigations.
- Support analysis of high-voltage power electronics including power modules, converters, contactors, control electronics, communication interfaces and related components.
- Provide technical support for complex customer escalations when deeper engineering analysis is required.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with R&D, Product Quality, Production, Service, Procurement and Logistics to resolve complex product issues.
- Work with suppliers when component-level failures require additional investigation or corrective action.
- Document findings through technical reports, 8Ds and other structured analysis documentation.
- Present findings and recommendations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience with failure analysis techniques, such as FMEA, 8D or RCA.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Experience with quality control and/or manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Experience in power electronics development and/or failure analysis.
Necessary Experience
- In-depth knowledge of power electronics, repairing equipment and power electronic components in a high voltage environment.
- Experience in solar inverters, UPS, energy storage, motor drives, industrial automation or high-voltage power supplies.
