What they need
Position Summary
Canfield Engineering & Integration (CEI) is the electrical, instrumentation, and controls engineer of record and designer on water, wastewater, and industrial facilities, including wells, booster and pump stations, lift stations, and treatment plants.
The Power Study Engineer is CEI's technical lead for power system studies. You will own each study from field data collection through the sealed report, covering arc flash, short circuit, protective device coordination, and load flow, and turn the results into practical recommendations for clients and our design teams.
It suits a licensed engineer who enjoys power systems analysis, is comfortable in the field, and wants responsibility for the finished study.
Reporting
- Reports to the Engineering Manager.
- Works with Project Managers and the designers assigned to each project.
Key Responsibilities
Power System Studies
- Perform arc flash hazard analyses per IEEE 1584 and NFPA 70E, including incident energy calculations and arc flash labels.
- Perform short circuit, protective device coordination, load flow, and motor starting studies.
- Build and maintain system models in SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, or EasyPower.
- Develop protective device settings and recommendations that reduce incident energy and improve selectivity.
Technical Responsibility
- Serve as Engineer of Record and seal study reports, maintaining responsible charge over sealed work.
- Perform QA/QC reviews of models and reports before each issue.
- Interpret and apply NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and UL standards and project specifications.
Field & Project Delivery
- Plan and lead field data collection at plants, pump stations, wells, and industrial sites.
- Manage scope, schedule, and budget for several concurrent studies.
- Prepare clear reports and single-line diagrams, and present findings to clients.
- Support design teams with equipment sizing, protection, and coordination questions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, with Arizona registration or comity eligibility within six months of hire.
- 3+ years performing power system studies (arc flash, short circuit, coordination).
- Proficiency in at least one study platform: SKM Power*Tools, ETAP, or EasyPower.
- Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and IEEE 1584.
- Clear written and verbal communication with clients and project teams.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Water, wastewater, industrial, or mining facility experience.
- Medium-voltage systems and protective relay setting experience.
- Harmonic analysis experience.
- AutoCAD or AutoCAD Electrical for single-line diagrams and markups.
Work Environment
CEI operates on a hybrid schedule — one day per week in the Chandler office and the remainder remote. Regular site visits for field data collection, mainly within Arizona, are required.
Compensation & Benefits

Includes an Annual/End-of-Year Bonus (Discretionary), medical/dental/vision and life insurance, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan with employer match.
