What they need

Practice Improvement and Quality Leader (PIQL)

Integrated Disability Support Services (IDSS)

Help our SIL teams turn knowledge into confident, consistent practice.

IDSS is seeking an experienced Practice Improvement and Quality Leader to assess and strengthen the skills of our Supported Independent Living teams.

This is a hands-on role for someone who understands quality disability support, can recognise good practice in a participant’s home, and knows how to help workers improve.

Working within IDSS’s competency guidelines and existing training matrix, you’ll undertake competency and skills assessments, identify development needs, coach staff and follow through to ensure improvements are demonstrated in everyday support.

Your work will help our teams meet the NDIS Practice Standards, including the new SIL Practice Standards, while delivering support that reflects each participant’s needs, preferences and goals.

What you’ll be doing

  • Planning and undertaking competency and skills assessments across our SIL teams
  • Observing everyday support practices in participants’ homes, respecting their privacy, preferences and consent
  • Using practical demonstrations, knowledge assessments, scenarios and reflective discussions to assess worker capability
  • Assessing how workers apply participant support plans, policies and procedures in practice
  • Documenting assessment evidence, outcomes and required development actions against IDSS competency guidelines
  • Identifying individual and team skill gaps and updating records within our existing training matrix
  • Providing clear, constructive feedback and practical coaching to Lifestyle Mentors and team leaders
  • Coordinating targeted training, supervised practice and reassessment where further development is required
  • Checking that training translates into safe, consistent support across workers and shifts
  • Working with Participant Liaison Officers, HR and management to prioritise workforce development
  • Using participant feedback, incidents, complaints and audit findings to identify practice improvement opportunities
  • Escalating unsafe practice or competency concerns promptly and following through on agreed actions
  • Coordinating specialist training or assessment where clinical or technical expertise is required

The practice areas you’ll support

You’ll help our teams demonstrate capability in areas such as:

  • Person-centred support and respect for participants’ rights
  • Supported decision-making, choice and dignity of risk
  • Active support that builds participation and independence
  • Trauma-informed approaches and cultural safety
  • Communication tailored to each participant
  • Safeguarding and recognising and responding to abuse or neglect
  • Implementing positive behaviour support plans and understanding restrictive practice requirements
  • Safe support routines, documentation and incident responses
  • Participant-specific support needs and emergency arrangements

About you

We’re looking for someone who combines strong disability sector experience with the ability to assess fairly, coach effectively and address concerns confidently.

You’ll bring:

  • Demonstrated experience in SIL service delivery and practice leadership
  • Strong working knowledge of the NDIS Practice Standards, including the new SIL Practice Standards
  • Experience assessing staff competency and providing practical, evidence-based feedback
  • The ability to distinguish between completing training and demonstrating competence
  • Confidence observing support delivery and having constructive conversations about practice
  • Experience developing staff capability through coaching, mentoring or training
  • Strong assessment documentation, organisation and follow-up skills
  • Sound judgement about when specialist or clinical assessment is needed
  • An approachable manner and the confidence to uphold clear standards

Relevant qualifications in disability, community services, education, training and assessment, or a related field would be highly regarded.

Why IDSS?

At IDSS, our work is built around Purpose, Opportunity and Passion.

This role gives you the opportunity to strengthen the people delivering support and make a direct difference to participants’ everyday lives.

You’ll work with our teams to build confidence, improve consistency and ensure learning leads to meaningful changes in practice. Throughout that work, the participant’s home, rights and choices remain central.

Apply through SEEK with your resume and a short cover letter outlining your SIL experience, competency assessment background and approach to developing staff practice.
