Practice Nurse

About the role

Adelaide Colorectal & General Surgery is seeking an experienced and motivated Practice Nurse (Registered or Enrolled) to join their team. This is a pivotal role supporting surgeons, patients, and the broader practice team through a combination of clinical care, patient education, and administrative coordination. In this diverse and hands-on position, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth delivery of high-quality patient care across all stages of the surgical journey.

Key responsibilities

• Managing patients' surgery bookings
• Supporting surgeons during consulting sessions, chaperoning and patient education
• Coordinating theatre lists and managing surgeon schedules
• Conducting patient clinical assessments (including pre-procedure screening)
• Booking Easy Access Colonoscopy and Endoscopy procedures
• Providing pre- and post-operative care and patient education
• Supporting patients with procedure preparation
• Triaging referrals and escalating to surgeons as required
• Managing patient enquiries and escalating clinical concerns to the surgeons as required
• Liaising with hospitals, anaesthetists, and other healthcare providers
• Coordinating emergency bookings and short-notice cases
• Maintaining infection control standards and a clean clinical environment
• Managing appointments, patient bookings, and recalls
• Processing billing, Medicare claims, and payments
• Maintaining accurate patient records and clinical documentation
• Supporting the practice team to ensure efficient daily operations

About you

• Current registration as a Registered or Enrolled Nurse with AHPRA
• Previous experience in surgical, medical, perioperative, or specialist practice nursing
• Strong clinical skills, particularly in post-operative care and patient education
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach
• High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities
• The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
• Experience with clinical software systems
• Positive attitude
