What they need
Overview
At Sunshine Renewable Solutions, our focus is on doing right by our community and the environment that sustains it. We build solar and battery storage projects for homeowners, businesses, and utilities, and we're looking for a Pre-Construction Engineer to help us keep those projects moving.
In this pivotal role, you will lead the planning, scheduling, budgeting, and technical feasibility phases for small-to-mid-scale solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects before physical construction begins.
You will bridge the gap between initial concept, design engineering, cost estimation, and permitting to ensure seamless integration of technical solutions with project objectives. Working on diverse commercial and utility-scale renewable infrastructure, you will utilize cutting-edge tools to shape resilient communities and set the foundation for successful project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning & Feasibility: Lead the planning and design feasibility phases for small-to-mid-scale solar and BESS projects. Review design proposals, electrical single-line diagrams (SLDs), and civil site plans to ensure technical viability and code compliance.
- Estimation & Budgeting: Prepare accurate construction cost estimates, material take-offs (MTOs), and labor quotes using construction management, estimating software
- Scheduling & Milestone Management: Develop project master schedules using project scheduling tools, managing timelines to ensure all pre-construction milestones are met on time and within scope.
- Permitting & Documentation: Perform technical engineering report generation, drafting, and documentation for feasibility studies and system designs. Manage projects through the entire permitting phase from initial planning through final agency approval.
- Multi-Project Coordination: Manage multiple projects simultaneously by coordinating with internal design teams, clients, project managers, and utility partners on schematic development, interconnection processes, and construction inspection planning.
- Solar Electrical & Civil Alignment: Leverage solar electrical domain knowledge alongside civil site considerations (stormwater management, land surveying evaluation, and geotechnical principles) to anticipate field challenges prior to site mobilization.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in project engineering, pre-construction, or estimating within renewable energy (solar/BESS), civil infrastructure, or a related field.
- Technical & Software Proficiency: Strong hands-on proficiency with CAD software (AutoCAD), construction management software, project scheduling tools, Procore and Google Workspace.
- Domain Knowledge: Core understanding of solar electrical space (inverters, racking, BESS integration, medium/low voltage balance of system) as well as familiarization with site infrastructure principles (stormwater, geotechnical considerations, and land surveying).
- Estimating & Scheduling: Proven ability to build detailed project estimates, manage project scopes, and maintain comprehensive project schedules.
- Permitting & Reporting: Demonstrated success in producing technical engineering reports, drafting proposals, and navigating permitting processes.
- Communication & Management: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for client interactions, cross-team collaboration, and managing multiple concurrent deliverables.
Preferred
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
