What they need
Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (RN) – Ophthalmic Surgery Center
The Surgery Center of Anaheim Hills is a modern, fully accredited outpatient surgery center dedicated exclusively to ophthalmic surgery. Our center provides a highly specialized environment focused on patient safety, efficiency, compassionate care, and an excellent surgical experience.
We are seeking a kind, experienced, dependable, and highly organized Pre-Operative Registered Nurse to join our ophthalmic surgical team.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in an ambulatory surgery center and will enjoy caring for primarily adult and senior ophthalmic patients. Previous ophthalmology experience is preferred; however, an experienced pre-op, PACU, OR, or ambulatory surgery nurse who is interested in learning ophthalmic surgery is encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
The Pre-Operative RN will be responsible for preparing patients safely and efficiently for ophthalmic surgical procedures. Responsibilities include:
- Admit and prepare patients for surgery
- Perform and document pre-operative nursing assessments
- Review medical history, medications, allergies, and pertinent laboratory or diagnostic information
- Obtain and document vital signs
- Confirm surgical procedure, operative eye, consent, and patient identification
- Verify completion of required pre-operative documentation
- Administer prescribed pre-operative medications and ophthalmic drops
- Start IVs when required
- Identify and communicate potential medical or surgical concerns to the surgeon and anesthesia provider
- Assist with the safe and efficient movement of patients through the surgical schedule
- Provide reassurance and compassionate care to patients who may be anxious about eye surgery
- Educate patients and family members regarding the surgical process
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation
- Follow infection-control, medication-safety, and patient-safety protocols
- Work closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, circulating nurses, surgical technicians, and administrative staff
- Assist in maintaining compliance with facility policies and accreditation requirements
Qualifications
- Current and unrestricted California RN license
- Current BLS certification
- ACLS preferred
- Previous pre-operative, PACU, operating room, or ambulatory surgery experience preferred
- Ophthalmology experience is highly desirable but not required for an otherwise experienced ASC nurse
- Comfortable caring for adult and geriatric surgical patients
- Strong assessment and IV skills
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work efficiently while maintaining excellent patient care
- Dependable, punctual, organized, and detail-oriented
- Friendly and compassionate bedside manner
- Ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit surgical team
The Type of Nurse We Are Looking For
Our patients are often older adults who may be nervous about having eye surgery. We are looking for a nurse who is not only clinically capable, but also patient, reassuring, personable, and genuinely kind.
At the same time, our surgical schedule requires an individual who can remain organized, anticipate what needs to be done, communicate effectively with the surgical team, and keep patients moving safely and efficiently through the pre-operative process.
Why Join Our Center?
The Surgery Center of Anaheim Hills is dedicated exclusively to ophthalmic surgery. Rather than working across many unrelated surgical specialties, our nurses become part of a team focused specifically on eye surgery.
We strive to maintain a professional, efficient, and supportive working environment where experienced nurses, surgical technicians, surgeons, and anesthesia providers work together to provide outstanding patient care.
To Apply
Please submit your current resume along with your general availability and the days/hours you are interested in working.
We look forward to meeting qualified nurses interested in becoming part of our ophthalmic surgical team.
