Prep Cook

The News Room is seeking a dependable and team-oriented Prep Cook to support daily kitchen operations and help prepare ingredients for restaurant service. This role involves preparing and organizing ingredients, following recipes and portion guidelines, maintaining clean workstations, and assisting the kitchen team during busy service periods. The ideal candidate is reliable, attentive to detail, and comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients for daily restaurant service according to established procedures.
• Wash, peel, cut, chop, portion, and organize ingredients as directed.
• Follow recipes, preparation instructions, and portion guidelines.
• Assist with preparing vegetables, sauces, dressings, proteins, and other food items as assigned.
• Label, date, store, and organize prepared ingredients properly.
• Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked preparation stations.
• Monitor ingredient levels and communicate restocking needs to kitchen leadership.
• Assist cooks with food preparation and routine kitchen tasks during busy periods.
• Help assemble food orders and maintain preparation accuracy when needed.
• Clean and sanitize counters, cutting boards, utensils, equipment, and work areas.
• Follow food-safety, sanitation, cleanliness, and workplace procedures.
• Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food supplies as assigned.
• Support opening, closing, and routine kitchen responsibilities.
• Work cooperatively with cooks, chefs, kitchen assistants, and restaurant team members.

Qualifications

• Previous prep cook, cook, kitchen, restaurant, or food-service experience is helpful.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen procedures.
• Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, food safety, and preparation details.
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant kitchen.
• Able to follow recipes, written instructions, and verbal directions.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Able to remain organized while handling multiple preparation tasks.
• Willingness to learn kitchen procedures and restaurant standards.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Pay: $24.00 - $29.00 per hour
