Prep Cook/ Dishwasher

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Dishwasher / Prep Cook to join our growing team at Southern Grounds! In this versatile role, you will help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen while assisting with daily food preparation. You will be responsible for washing and sanitizing dishes, cookware, and kitchen equipment, as well as preparing ingredients and supporting the kitchen team during service. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in cleanliness, enjoys working as part of a team, and can thrive in a fast-paced restaurant environment.

Responsibilities

Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, glasses, utensils, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment according to established sanitation standards.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, kitchen, storage areas, and other assigned workspaces.

Operate and properly maintain commercial dishwashing equipment and keep dishwashing supplies adequately stocked.

Assist with daily food preparation, including washing, peeling, cutting, chopping, portioning, and preparing ingredients according to established recipes and standards.

Prepare and organize ingredients for service to ensure the kitchen is properly stocked and ready for busy periods.

Assist with basic food preparation tasks such as assembling ingredients, preparing sauces, dressings, and other components as assigned.

Properly label, date, store, and rotate prepared ingredients and food products following food safety guidelines.

Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation areas, equipment, cutting boards, and utensils.

Remove trash and recycling and maintain clean and sanitary waste disposal areas.

Assist kitchen staff with additional cleaning, preparation, and support duties as needed during busy service periods.

Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures.

Work efficiently with kitchen and front-of-house team members to ensure smooth daily operations.

Assist with deep cleaning and other cleaning duties as assigned to maintain a safe and organized kitchen environment.

Qualifications

Previous restaurant, kitchen, food preparation, or cleaning experience is preferred but not required.

Basic knowledge of food preparation, kitchen equipment, and sanitation practices.

Ability to safely use knives and other basic kitchen tools.

Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness, food safety, and quality.

Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards.

Reliable, punctual, and dependable with a strong work ethic.

Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift and carry kitchen items as needed.

Ability to work cooperatively with team members and follow directions.

Flexible and willing to assist with a variety of kitchen responsibilities as needed.
