What they need

President

Fifth Gear Automotive · Lewisville, TX (Dallas–Fort Worth) · Full-time, on-site · Reports to the Board of Directors

We're hiring the person who will run this company.

Fifth Gear Automotive is a top national ranked family-owned dealer alternative auto repair group that has been serving the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex area since 2004. We currently have about 90 employees, and roughly $19 million in annual revenue. Our owners are moving out of operating seat to the board of directors. The President runs the business and reports to the board.

This is not a caretaker job. The President owns the P&L and leads the whole director team. Our plan is to reach 25 locations and $100 million by 2035, funded out of our own cash flow — no private equity, no intention to sell.

About Fifth Gear

We've been family-owned since 2004, and we still are — two families, no outside investors, no private equity. What started as a single shop is now six repair hubs and four storefronts across North Texas, with a second generation of families running the business day to day. We're profitable, and company returns on sales are in double digits and climbing.

We compete on being honest and easy to deal with, not on being the cheapest. We tell people when something can wait. That has built a customer base that comes back for years and sends us their friends, and it is the thing we protect the most.

Our model is worth understanding before you apply, because it's not how most shops run. We lead with heavy-line repair and sell into maintenance — most shops do the reverse. We partner with other repair shops instead of competing with them, and a network of more than 1,400 of them sends us the heavy work they don't take on. Our customers are out-of-warranty vehicles, roughly seven to fifteen years old, in households that intend to keep the car. That combination is what makes the economics work.

We're independent and intend to stay that way. The business funds its own growth, each location services its own debt, and we're building this to hand to the next generation rather than to flip.

What you'd own

  • The full P&L — revenue, gross profit, net operating income, and across every location and the management company.
  • Four direct reports the directors: Operations, Finance, Talent Development, and New Business Development. Leading them, developing them, and holding them to their numbers.
  • Hands on Day-to-day operations across all shops and satellites, and the operating playbook that makes a new store ramp repeatable instead of by luck.
  • The expansion — five to six new shops by 2030 and the runway to 25 by 2035, including site work, openings, and territory buildout.
  • Hands on management of Store-level KPIs and the cadence and accountability that go with them.
  • Our marketing engine: outside sales will do roughly 1,400 shop visits a month, inside sales, digital, and brand.
  • The growth capital plan — partnering with ownership and the board on what gets funded, when, and how each new store pays for itself.
  • The culture. We call our values the Five Gears, and protecting them is part of the job, not an afterthought.

What the first year looks like

Get consistent. Standardized operations across the six locations we have, hit this year's return-on-sales improvement target, and get the newest shop and the storefronts performing to plan. Then prove the model repeats — that's the three-to-five-year measure.

Who we're looking for

  • You've run a multi-site operating service business with full P&L responsibility, and you've scaled one. We recommend experiencing $100 million or more in revenue — ideally built from a smaller base rather than inherited at size.
  • You've built the systems, KPIs, and leadership layers that let multiple locations run the same way. You know the difference between a business with six locations and one location six times.
  • You've hired, mentored, and promoted your own next layer of leaders. We'll ask you to name them.
  • You've opened new sites, integrated an acquisition, or both.
  • You're comfortable with banks and lenders, and you know how to use debt carefully to fund growth rather than gamble with it.
  • You lead through relationships — with customers and with your own people. That's how this business works.
  • Executive or advanced business education required

Automotive aftermarket experience is welcome but not required. We would rather have a proven multi-site operator — with a strong service background — who owns the number than someone who knows cars but hasn't run a company. We can teach the industry.

What this job is not

  • It isn't a turnaround. The business is healthy and growing — You’d be scaling something that works, not rescuing something that doesn't.
  • It isn't a figurehead seat. You answer to the board only. The P&L is yours and so are the decisions that go with it.
  • It isn't a path to a sale. If your plan is to dress this up and flip it, we're not a fit.

Why this is worth your time

You get a healthy, self-funded business with a real growth runway and owners who are deliberately getting out of the operating seat. They stay involved at the board level on strategy, capital, and real estate — and out of your daily business. That line is one we've thought about carefully and written down.

Compensation

$200,000 – $500,000 total compensation — base plus performance bonus tied to company results, depending on experience. Full benefits including medical, dental, and vision. Relocation considered for the right person.

How to apply

Apply through Indeed with a resume. Tell us in a few sentences about a multi-location business you scaled and what it looked like when you got there versus when you left with a reference that can back up your story.
