About the Organization

The Alliance for American Leadership is a bipartisan coalition working to revitalize U.S. global leadership through strategic investments in international development. We believe foreign aid is one of the most cost-effective tools in policymakers' arsenal. It is less than one percent of the federal budget, yet it fights global poverty, strengthens U.S. national security, prevents pandemics, and bolsters the U.S. economy. Further, a study in the Lancet projects that 14 million people may die over the next four years if foreign aid is not restored. To prevent that, A4AL drafts policy, lobbies Congress, runs digital ad campaigns that reach millions of Americans, and supports the campaigns of Members of Congress who defend foreign aid.

Position Overview:

Press Team Members support A4AL’s communications and media outreach by managing relationships with journalists, drafting press materials, and contributing to the organization’s Substack publication. This team plays a key role in elevating A4AL’s public presence, securing media opportunities, and driving small-dollar fundraising through compelling written content. Press team members work closely with the Communications Director to ensure all messaging is mission-aligned, nonpartisan, and reflective of A4AL’s values.

Core Responsibilities

Press Outreach & Media Relations

• Write weekly press releases and news updates distributed to journalists and media partners.
• Conduct outreach to journalists, including scheduling coffee meetings and pitching A4AL’s work and mission.
• Research journalists, podcast hosts, and radio hosts who may be interested in A4AL’s initiatives and add them to outreach lists.
• Support efforts to secure podcast and radio appearances for A4AL spokespeople, including Asher and other designated representatives.

Letters to the Editor (LTE) Program

• Draft weekly letters to the editor for interns and volunteers to submit to their local newspapers.
• Provide guidance and examples to help team members understand the purpose and structure of LTEs.
• Ensure all letters reflect A4AL’s mission, tone, and nonpartisan positioning.

Substack Writing & Content Development

• Draft Substack articles that highlight A4AL’s work, share relevant news updates, and include a compelling donation pitch.
• Contribute to content that reaches A4AL’s email list of subscribers, primarily small-dollar donors.
• Collaborate with the Communications Director and designated editors to refine and finalize posts.
• Maintain a consistent voice that aligns with A4AL’s mission and fundraising goals.

Research & Media Tracking

• Monitor media trends, journalist activity, and relevant news cycles to identify timely outreach opportunities.
• Maintain organized lists of media contacts, outreach attempts, and follow-up needs.
• Track podcast, radio, and press opportunities to support ongoing relationship-building.

Qualifications

• Strong writing skills, with experience in press releases, opinion writing, or digital content preferred.
• Interest in media relations, journalism, or nonprofit communications.
• Ability to communicate professionally with journalists and external partners.
• Strong research skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
