At Sciennes we are committed to ensuring every child grows up loved, safe and respected. We want every child to receive an education which develops their personality, talents, mind and body so they can reach their fullest potential (Article 28 and 29 UNCRC). Our skilled staff team, engaged families and motivated learners work together to ensure that we live by our school motto of Believe, Achieve.
Our school first opened its doors in 1892. Now in 2026, we provide high quality learning experiences for over 650 children in our Victorian building, newly built annexe designed with Passivhaus technology, and in St Leonard’s, our associated Nursery, based in the Pleasance.
Our school ethos is based on equality. We are one of very few schools who have achieved a Gold Rights Respecting School Award twice. We hold the LGBT Silver Charter’s School Award which is the highest accolade that can be achieved by a primary school. Our longstanding collaboration with the Children’s Parliament has resulted in our learners contributing to a three year project on Sustainability. We have entered into a partnership with SCOTDEC who are strengthening our approach to anti-racist education.
Our children’s success is a key priority for us. We have very high attainment in Literacy and Numeracy. Our approach to planning is based on stage collaboration which is then tailored to meet the needs of individual learners. Our Learning and Teaching is based on the key principles of Engage, Explain, Experience and Evaluate.
We are looking for a class teacher to work alongside our Primary 5 team and is 0.34FTE across Thursday and Friday.
