Principal Applied AI Developer, Foundation Models Infrastructure

For our client, we are seeking a Principal Applied AI Developer, Foundation Models Infrastructure to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space.

This role will shape the technical direction for a core AI and machine learning infrastructure platform, with a focus on enabling large-scale foundation model development and deployment. The ideal candidate will partner closely with research, product, and engineering teams to turn ambiguous needs into scalable, secure, and efficient technical solutions. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who can drive platform strategy while building the services, tools, and workflows that accelerate developer productivity and model lifecycle execution.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $153,000 – $224,400 annually

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical strategy for the machine learning foundation model infrastructure
• Lead the design and implementation of large-scale platform services supporting the full ML model lifecycle
• Design resilient, secure, observable, scalable, and cost-effective infrastructure for AI and machine learning workloads
• Create and enhance APIs, tools, workflows, and self-service features for developers to support rapid and secure delivery
• Work hands-on with Kubernetes, Ray, SageMaker, AWS, and related cloud-native technologies
• Identify and prioritize high-impact technical issues aligned with product and platform strategies
• Translate ambiguous research, product, and business requirements into concrete technical designs

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, machine learning, or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, especially with large-scale cloud-native distributed infrastructure systems
• Experience utilizing AI-assisted development tools and automation to improve technical productivity
• Strong hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating production-level services
• Proficiency in Kubernetes and native cloud infrastructures
• Experience in distributed computing and machine learning infrastructure technologies such as Ray and SageMaker
• Proven ability to lead complex technical initiatives and influence technical direction without direct authority
