About the role

The Principal Broker partners with the Director of McLardy McShane Specialty to grow and manage a portfolio of mid-market General Insurance accounts. The role combines new business development with the ongoing management of key and complex client relationships – providing broking advice, overseeing claims outcomes, and contributing to branch performance, compliance and client retention.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide proactive, professional service to a portfolio of mid-market General Insurance clients, retaining and growing the book.
  • Process policy transactions, renewals, invoicing and Certificates of Currency.
  • Prepare insurance submissions, slips and client presentations to support renewal and new business negotiations.
  • Respond to enquiries from current and prospective clients, managing quotations and account administration.
  • Identify and develop new business prospects, cross-marketing to expand the branch's client base and revenue streams.
  • Prepare quotes, proposals, reports and letters of appointment to convert prospective clients.
  • Build and maintain relationships with underwriters, insurers and industry professionals to support growth.
  • Manage claims lodgement, progression and resolution in collaboration with the Director and the dedicated claims team.
  • Act in clients' best interests throughout the claims process, ensuring timely and favourable settlement.
  • Maintain strong compliance practices through accurate record keeping, file audits and policy reviews.

About you

  • Diploma of Financial Services, with Tier 1 and Tier 2 compliance mandatory.
  • 10+ years' broking experience at a senior level, with a track record managing complex mid-market accounts.
  • Strong technical insurance and broking knowledge across products, legislative obligations and claims processes (RG 146).
  • Working knowledge of RG 271 (Internal Dispute Resolution) and broader compliance requirements in broking.
  • Demonstrated budget and debtor management experience, with the ability to implement processes that drive revenue and monitor compliance.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills across staff, clients, underwriters and industry professionals.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a culture-driven team aligned with McLardy McShane values.
  • Tertiary qualification in a business-related discipline highly regarded, though not mandatory for the right candidate.
