What they need
About the Company
Our client is a public sector organisation using data, evidence and investment to support better outcomes for communities. Its work brings together complex information about needs, services, funding and outcomes to strengthen investment and commissioning decisions.
About the Role
As Principal Data Analyst, you’ll turn ambiguous questions about communities, services, investment and outcomes into robust, decision-ready evidence.
You’ll lead analytical approaches, work with complex and imperfect data, challenge assumptions and communicate what the evidence means to senior decision-makers. You’ll also help turn successful analysis into repeatable methodologies and scalable analytical products.
Skills & Experience
- Significant analytical experience, ideally within the NZ public sector
- Proven ability to frame ambiguous problems and develop robust analytical approaches
- Experience with complex administrative, social-sector, funding, investment or service data
- Strong analytical judgement, statistical reasoning and quality assurance capability
- Exposure to outcomes measurement, evaluation, ROI/SROI or cost-benefit analysis is advantageous
- Confidence translating complex evidence into clear advice for senior audiences
- Principal-level leadership capability while remaining practical and hands-on
Why Work Here?
- Use evidence to influence meaningful social investment decisions
- Help determine what is working, where gaps exist and where investment could have greater impact
- Shape new analytical methodologies and products rather than simply maintain existing reporting
- Combine hands-on analysis with senior-level influence and analytical leadership
- Work across investment, services, communities and outcomes
- Wellington-based with flexible Work from Home options
- Fixed term to June 2027, with secondment arrangements potentially considered
This is an opportunity for an experienced analyst who enjoys difficult questions, can interrogate evidence and wants their work to influence significant decisions.
