Principal Database Engineer - SQL Server & AI Data Infrastructure

For our client, we are seeking a Principal Database Engineer - SQL Server & AI Data Infrastructure to join the team of a leader in the Finance & Insurance space.

This role will lead the design and modernization of enterprise data infrastructure with a strong focus on SQL Server performance, reliability, and scalability. You will partner closely with engineering and technology teams to refactor complex database logic, improve automation, and support high-volume data environments. The work will be central to advancing the organization’s data platform capabilities while enabling more efficient and resilient operations. Experience with AI-assisted development tools and modern database practices will help drive the next phase of technical evolution.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $165,800 – $204,400 annually

Responsibilities

• Design, optimize, and modernize large-scale SQL Server databases
• Analyze and refactor complex T-SQL and database logic
• Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks
• Drive database modernization initiatives for scalability and reliability
• Implement automation strategies to maintain data integrity
• Engineer solutions for enterprise-scale data platforms
• Lead complex database engineering initiatives independently

Qualifications

• 15+ years in database engineering or related fields
• Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and T-SQL
• Experience with legacy database modernization
• Strong programming skills in Python, C#, or similar
• Deep understanding of database performance optimization
• Familiarity with AI coding tools and data technologies
• Experience in high-volume data environments
