Principal Designer

Principal Designer – Design Systems & AI We're looking for a **Principal Designer** to own and evolve the design system across every platform the organization ships on. You'll maintain it, grow it, and build it so it scales. You'll also make it the foundation for how AI is used to generate design iterations — a system structured well enough that AI tools can produce on-brand, on-spec work from it. This is a **senior individual contributor role** reporting to the Head of Product Design, based in **Bengaluru** with a **hybrid setup: 4 days a week on-site**. What You'll Do * Own the design system end to end: foundations, tokens, components, patterns, and documentation. * Create and evolve components that work across **Android, iOS, web, and Windows**. * Balance a consistent product experience with each platform's native conventions, including **Material Design, Human Interface Guidelines, and Fluent Design**. * Structure the system so AI tools can use it, with well-named tokens, clear component specifications, and tool-readable documentation. * Build and refine **AI-assisted design workflows** that speed up exploration and iteration for the design team. * Work closely with engineering to ensure what's designed in Figma matches what ships, including token pipelines, component parity, and handoff standards. * Audit products for **design consistency and accessibility** and establish standards for the wider design team. * Drive adoption of the design system across the design team and help designers get the most out of it. What We're Looking For * Formal design education (**design degree or equivalent**). * **7–10 years of experience** in UI design, with a strong visual and interaction design portfolio. * At least **2 years of hands-on experience building or maintaining a design system**, not just using one. * Experience designing across multiple platforms. **Mobile + web is essential**; Windows or desktop experience is a strong plus. * Deep expertise in **Figma**, including variables, modes, component properties, and library management. * Practical experience using **AI in the design workflow** and curiosity about emerging AI-assisted design capabilities. * Strong understanding of how **design tokens and components translate into code**. * Working knowledge of **WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standards**. * Strong written communication and documentation skills, as documentation is an important part of the role. Nice to Have * Experience in **Enterprise SaaS or B2B products**. * Experience with **design token tooling or design-to-code workflows**, such as Figma MCP or Style Dictionary. * Experience designing for **frontline, industrial, or shared-device users**.
