Principal Software Engineer

Our client is seeking a senior, hands-on Principal Software Engineer to help shape and deliver the next generation of its enterprise technology landscape.

The organization is undergoing significant modernization while continuing to operate complex legacy platforms. The Principal Engineer will help bridge those environments by designing and implementing modern solutions, providing technical direction and working closely with engineering, product/value-stream and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and implementation of scalable enterprise applications and modernization initiatives.
• Remain hands-on with software engineering, coding, technical problem-solving and solution implementation.
• Design modern cloud-based and distributed solutions using APIs, microservices and appropriate architectural patterns.
• Support Enercare's Azure-focused technology direction and cloud modernization.
• Apply strong engineering practices across development, DevOps, CI/CD, testing, code quality and design.
• Work with stakeholders and existing application owners to understand legacy environments and establish practical modernization approaches.
• Participate in and influence technical/design reviews.
• Partner closely with Value Stream Owners to translate business problems and roadmaps into implementable technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers and help strengthen Enercare's evolving engineering culture.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and determine where they can practically improve business and technology outcomes.
• Operate effectively in an environment containing ambiguity, changing priorities and complex business processes.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with experience operating at Principal, Staff, Senior Staff or equivalent technical leadership level.
• Strong hands-on software development capability; must remain technically current and capable of coding.
• Experience designing scalable cloud/distributed enterprise applications.
• Strong understanding of APIs, microservices and modern application architecture.
• Cloud experience; Azure strongly preferred, although significant AWS or GCP experience may be considered.
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD and modern engineering practices.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management capability.
• Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and explain technical decisions clearly.
• Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction without relying solely on formal authority.

• Azure Container Apps.
• Event-driven architecture.
• Experience designing high-scale, real-time or "Uber-like" applications.
• Breadth across modern languages/frameworks such as Java, C#, Python, JavaScript/React.
• Experience modernizing long-standing legacy applications.
