Principal Flight Software Engineer

EVONA is partnering with a space technology company seeking a Principal Flight Software Engineer to lead the development of mission-critical spacecraft software.

This opportunity combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership: shaping architecture, writing code, mentoring engineers and guiding software development across multiple programmes.

What you’ll do:

• Own flight software from architecture and design through implementation, validation, deployment and ongoing support.

• Develop modern C++ applications for real-time, multithreaded Linux systems.

• Support spacecraft functions including command and telemetry, power, thermal control, communications, fault management and onboard autonomy.

• Set coding standards, verification processes and engineering best practices.

• Mentor engineers and influence technical strategy while remaining hands-on.

What you’ll bring:

• 14+ years of spacecraft flight software development experience.

• Expert proficiency in C++17 or later.

• Strong experience with real-time systems, multithreading and hardware/software integration.

• Knowledge of communications protocols such as RS422/485, TCP, UDP, SLIP and CCSDS.

• Experience with Linux device drivers, board support packages, configuration management and Git.

• A degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.

Experience with flight software frameworks, spacecraft operations and technical team leadership would be advantageous.
