What they need

Principal Information Security Engineer

Location: Brackley, UK

The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Information Security Engineer to join an established Enterprise Technology function. This is a senior, hands-on position with the scope to influence the direction and development of the organisation’s security capability.

As the security function continues to evolve, you will play a key role in building the frameworks, technical standards and operational processes needed to protect a complex technology environment spanning factory operations and trackside activities.

You will provide technical leadership across security engineering and operations, improve security controls throughout the wider technology estate, and lead a small team of security engineers. Working closely with infrastructure, cloud and other IT teams, you will ensure security is embedded throughout the design, implementation and operation of technology.

This position offers significant autonomy to shape security practices, introduce meaningful improvements and establish a mature, consistent approach to enterprise security.

On-site requirement: A minimum of 3 to 4 days per week at the Brackley campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement technical security frameworks, standards and operating procedures, establishing clear accountability, measurable control effectiveness and alignment with organisational risk and governance requirements.
  • Lead the technical strategy for security engineering and operations, covering preventative security, monitoring, threat detection, investigation and incident response, while remaining actively involved in delivery.
  • Manage and continuously improve the security technology stack, including tooling configuration, integrations, optimisation and ongoing performance.
  • Drive security improvements across identity, endpoint, network, cloud, application and data environments, reducing exposure, strengthening preventative controls and improving threat detection capabilities.
  • Serve as the senior technical point of authority for security across Enterprise Technology, collaborating with IT stakeholders to define standards, coordinate remediation and support informed risk-based decisions.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of security engineers, developing technical expertise, encouraging best practice and maintaining high engineering standards.
  • Assess emerging threats, vulnerabilities and technology developments, translating them into actionable security controls, engineering priorities and improvement initiatives.
  • Introduce meaningful performance indicators to measure security maturity, control effectiveness and operational performance, using these insights to identify weaknesses and prioritise investment.
  • Oversee external security partners, including managed security service providers and technology vendors, ensuring effective delivery, accountability and value for money.

About You

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Hands-on experience with enterprise security platforms such as CrowdStrike or comparable technologies.
  • Experience developing security automation for alert enrichment, investigation and response, using SOAR platforms and scripting.
  • Experience managing relationships with MSSPs, external security consultancies or specialist technology providers.
  • A background in developing and implementing security governance, standards and operational processes within a demanding, fast-moving organisation.
  • Experience supporting enterprise security architecture, secure-by-design approaches and the implementation of robust preventative controls.

Candidate Profile

  • A hands-on builder: Enjoys developing security capabilities from the ground up, combining strategic thinking with the technical ability to implement practical solutions.
  • A credible technical leader: Comfortable taking ownership of technical decisions, setting direction and leading a small team through expertise and example.
  • Delivery-focused: Persistent, accountable and motivated by tangible outcomes, with the discipline to see initiatives through to completion.
  • Pragmatic and adaptable: Able to balance security requirements, operational demands and delivery timelines without introducing unnecessary complexity.
  • Composed under pressure: Capable of making sound decisions during security incidents and other time-sensitive situations.
  • Fundamentally strong: Understands core security principles and can apply them across different technologies rather than relying on experience with a particular vendor.
  • Collaborative and forward-thinking: Values high standards, works effectively across teams and is motivated by building sustainable security capabilities.

About the Organisation

This is an opportunity to join a high-performance engineering organisation operating in a technically demanding, globally connected environment.

Technology plays a critical role across manufacturing, enterprise operations and international trackside activities. The organisation places significant emphasis on precision, innovation, continuous improvement and delivering consistently high standards.

You will join a collaborative environment where engineering excellence, accountability and the ability to perform under pressure are central to the culture.

Benefits

The Brackley campus offers a modern working environment with facilities including an on-site gym and exercise studio, a subsidised restaurant and parking with electric vehicle charging facilities.

The wider benefits package includes:

  • Competitive base salary and performance-related bonus.
  • Company car leasing scheme.
  • Private medical insurance.
  • Access to an on-site GP.
  • Life assurance.
  • 25 days of annual leave.
  • Employee wellbeing initiatives and family-friendly policies.
