Principal Machine Learning Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Retail & Consumer Goods space.

This role will drive machine learning systems and infrastructure that support search and discovery capabilities across the business. You will partner closely with engineering peers to shape architecture, improve model performance, and translate research into practical applications. The position also plays an important role in evaluating emerging approaches, including large language model insights, and communicating technical outcomes to a broad audience.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $175,000 – $250,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Build and improve ML systems and pipelines while addressing data gaps
• Apply machine learning research papers and run experiments to evaluate new architectures
• Set up and maintain infrastructure required for ML workload operations
• Collaborate with engineering peers on architectural and statistical decision-making
• Influence the strategic vision for search and discovery using LLM insights
• Present model outcomes and project roadmaps to highlight business impact

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in machine learning engineering with a focus on MLOps and research-related impact
• Proven experience reading and applying ML research papers to improve models
• Ability to build and manage ML infrastructure, including Redis clusters
• Knowledge of search and discovery systems, especially as they relate to large language models
• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills to drive architecture and methodology discussions
• Experience presenting technical findings and their business implications to diverse audiences
