What they need

Fluid Recruitment is proud to exclusively partner with Mercury Energy in searching for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its Asset Management Team.

The Role

Play a key role in shaping the future performance of New Zealand's renewable generation assets. As discipline lead for mechanical engineering, you will provide strategic oversight and technical leadership across hydro, geothermal and wind generation assets.

Operating within a governance framework, you'll ensure engineering risks are effectively managed by working closely with technical specialists, site engineers, contractors and external consultants.

Managing asset performance, you'll apply a risk-based approach, assessing asset condition, lead technical investigations and identify trends that inform future investment decisions.

About You

Relationship focused and experienced working with a range of stakeholders, you will bring a pragmatic approach with the ability to communicate your strategic decisions to both the Executive Leadership Team and those on the ground.

With a background in generation or heavy industry involving standards and legislation, you will be experienced in making risk-based decisions within complex environments. Specific knowledge related to pressure equipment, turbines and gates is highly advantageous. Regardless, you'll be an experienced Mechanical Engineer that thrives in an influential role, guiding impactful decisions.

Degree qualified, you will bring maturity to problem solving, with an ability to work through and articulate abstract technical concepts.

The Opportunity

Play an influential role in shaping the reliability and performance of Mercury's key strategic generating assets.

A key technical leadership position, you'll have access to plenty of variety, with a mix of office and site-based work, supporting multiple sites and different generation types across the Waikato. Further, you'll engage in various strategic conversations and projects while providing technical guidance and mentorship to a well-resourced Engineering Team and knowledgeable site-based engineers.

Mercury is a diverse and inclusive company that recognises unique abilities and talent, with excellent career pathway opportunities along with long-term professional development. Joining a social team and flexible work environment, a competitive remuneration package is on offer.

This includes:

  • 5 additional days of leave
  • Life and income protection insurance
  • Discounted energy and telco rates
  • $400 one-off tax-free home office setup payment
  • Additional parental leave
  • Free flu jabs, annual medical checkup subsidy, confidential assistance programme, discounts on dentists, gyms, and other local businesses
  • Gender affirmation leave
  • An employee community fund
