Senior AI Platform Engineer

Location: Dallas–Fort Worth, TX preferred

Contract length: Approximately 6 months before potential conversion

Digital Prospectors is seeking a Senior AI Platform Engineer to build and operate AI platform capabilities in controlled environments. This role combines hands-on software engineering, model deployment, developer tooling, and systems integration. You’ll help turn prototypes into reliable production services and support engineering teams adopting the platform.

What you’ll do

• Build core platform services, shared libraries, and APIs with testing, documentation, and operational support.
• Deploy and operate open-weight models on self-managed infrastructure. Optimize inference performance through model selection, quantization, and GPU utilization while accounting for cost, latency, and data boundaries.
• Develop AI-assisted coding tools, including code-aware retrieval, IDE and toolchain integrations, agentic workflows, and evaluation capabilities.
• Build Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers and integrations that connect internal systems and data sources, with appropriate schemas, authentication, access scoping, and error handling.
• Improve production reliability through observability, evaluation pipelines, cost management, and operational handoff.
• Provide reference implementations, review designs, and mentor engineers using the platform.

Required qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of relevant experience; master’s degree and 5 years; or PhD and 3 years.
• Strong hands-on experience with Python and at least one of Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Production experience deploying and operating open-weight models on self-managed infrastructure.
• Experience building LLM-based coding or developer tools, including code retrieval, context handling, and toolchain integration.
• Experience with LLM orchestration, retrieval, tool calling, and evaluation.
• Experience delivering MCP servers, tool-calling integrations, or similar agent-to-system connectors to production users.
• Strong systems integration experience across APIs, event streams, data pipelines, and identity.
• A track record of delivering complex technical work to production independently.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience delivering solutions for the Department of Defense, intelligence community, or defense industrial base, including work in accredited or air-gapped environments.
• Experience with fine-tuning, distillation, or other model adaptation with measurable results.
• Open-source contributions or published work related to agents, MCP, or open-weight models.
