Principal Scientist - Assay Development & Screening

Concept Life Sciences is looking for an experienced Principal Scientist to provide scientific leadership across our Assay Development and Screening projects. You will use your expertise in biochemical and cell-based assays to help clients advance their drug discovery programmes, combining hands-on science with the opportunity to shape our capabilities and develop others.

What you will be doing:

You will guide scientific delivery across client projects, helping design experiments, solve complex challenges and interpret data. Working with colleagues across Biology, Medicinal Chemistry, CADD, ADME/DMPK, Toxicology and Data Science, you will develop assays and screening approaches that support project decisions.

You will mentor colleagues, uphold high standards of scientific quality and compliance, and help introduce new technologies. You will also build relationships with customers, contribute to proposals and scientific presentations, and represent Concept externally where appropriate, helping to grow our Assay Development and Screening capabilities.

This role involves travel to Edinburgh and other company sites as required.

About you:

• Deep expertise in biochemical and cell-based assay development, with experience translating scientific questions into effective screening strategies.
• A relevant PhD or postgraduate experience demonstrating deep scientific expertise, with significant experience in a CRO, academic, biotech or pharmaceutical environment.
• Strong understanding of drug discovery, from target validation to candidate selection, and sound judgement when solving complex scientific problems.
• Proven scientific leadership, including project delivery and mentoring, with strong communication and collaboration skills.

Additional expertise in biophysics, protein production or protein characterisation would also be valuable.
