Principal Software Engineer - Platform Engineering

For our client, we are seeking a Principal Software Engineer - Platform Engineering to join the team of a leader in the Enterprise Technology space. This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery. You will work across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a technology-driven environment.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $246,000 – $339,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Drive necessary service-side architectural changes for cell architecture implementation
• Decompose numerous microservices into independent sub-systems with their own lifecycles
• Identify and address horizontal scalability issues across regions and deployment models
• Own the end-to-end management of the environments application configuration framework
• Develop services and libraries for private and isolated cloud environments
• Design and implement changes directly within product services, collaborating with respective teams
• Establish architectural patterns and reference implementations for product teams to follow
• Transform configuration management into a runtime consideration rather than a fixed component in service code
• Collaborate with Cloud Platform, SRE, and DevEx to clarify service and platform boundaries
• Elevate the overall architectural standards within the organization while mentoring senior engineers
• Integrate AI tools into daily development processes for sustainable productivity improvements

Qualifications

• Deep hands-on architecture experience with large microservice estates of hundreds of services
• Strong programming proficiency in Java and Python, with readiness to tackle other languages as needed
• Proven record of decomposing extensive service architectures into independently evolving sub-systems
• Experience designing systems for horizontal scalability across multiple regions and deployment models
• Solid background in cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes, containers, and AWS
• Expertise in externalizing configuration, minimizing environment dependencies in application code
• Demonstrated ability to implement significant architectural changes in services managed by other teams
