Principal SW Development Engineer

For our client, we are seeking a Principal SW Development Engineer to join the team of a leader in the Healthcare space.

This role will shape backend and cloud platform architecture for large-scale systems that support highly regulated healthcare solutions. You will partner closely with engineering teams to define target-state designs, guide technical decisions, and ensure the platform is built for scalability, security, and performance. The position also requires translating business and regulatory needs into practical architecture patterns that enable reliable delivery and long-term growth.

Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $190,100 – $316,800 annually

Responsibilities

• Provide architectural direction for backend and cloud platform decisions
• Define target-state and reference architectures for distributed services and APIs
• Translate business and regulatory needs into technical requirements and architecture patterns
• Design systems for scalability, security, and performance
• Lead collaborative architecture reviews and provide guidance to engineering teams
• Conduct technology evaluations to identify advantages for system adoption
• Mentor teams to effectively implement architectural guidance

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred
• 15+ years of experience in related fields, or 10+ years with a Master’s degree, or 7+ years with a PhD
• Deep expertise in large-scale server-side and cloud-native platforms
• Strong background in distributed systems, microservices, and event-driven architectures
• Experience with regulatory requirements in medical devices and healthcare preferred
