What they need

About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team in Leiston, Suffolk, on the Sizewell C project.

Role purpose: To coordinate and manage the temporary works process throughout the project, ensuring that temporary works are suitably identified, designed, reviewed, approved, communicated and safely implemented in accordance with project requirements, programme and relevant standards.

The role will provide technical support and guidance to the site and design teams, maintain effective temporary works controls and documentation and ensure that associated risks are appropriately managed throughout design and construction.

**This role is being offered on a 2 year, fixed term contract**

What you'll be doing

The successful candidate will have the following key accountabilities:

  • Maintain the Temporary Works Register, tracking design, approvals and delivery against the construction programme;
  • Coordinate with the client’s temporary works management team and provide guidance to site teams;
  • Identify and assess temporary works requirements and prepare clear design briefs;
  • Coordinate temporary works designs with permanent works designers and wider design and construction teams;
  • Review design outputs to ensure they meet the brief, programme and relevant technical requirements;
  • Communicate residual design risks and confirm suitable controls are in place;
  • Issue approved drawings, specifications and design change information to site teams;
  • Maintain accurate temporary works documentation within site management systems;
  • Review RAMS and ITPs, ensuring appropriate controls and hold points are included;
  • Oversee Temporary Works Supervisors and support specialist designs, including guide walls, reaction piles, diaphragm wall stability and lifting arrangements.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities and experience are required to fulfil the requirements of the role:

  • Bring 5–7 years’ relevant experience, with strong engineering knowledge of temporary works and the associated risks;
  • Confidently read, interpret and implement drawings, sketches and technical specifications;
  • Identify where temporary works are required on site and understand the proposed construction methods and loading constraints;
  • Make sound, independent engineering decisions without being influenced by commercial, programme or other pressures;
  • Recognise your own technical limitations and those of others, seeking appropriate support where required;
  • Assess the competence of appointed Temporary Works Supervisors and provide effective technical oversight;
  • Demonstrate the authority and confidence to stop work where safety or compliance may be compromised;
  • Hold a valid CSCS card and CITB Temporary Works Coordinator qualification; SMSTS is preferred, while knowledge of soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, piling or diaphragm walls would be advantageous.
