Private Overnight Security Officer

A private family seeks an experienced, professional, and discreet Overnight Private Security Officer to provide consistent nighttime coverage at their primary Manhattan residence. The family also maintains residences in the Hamptons and elsewhere, though this position is focused on the Manhattan home. The officer will help maintain a safe, secure environment while working within the rhythms of an active private household.

This is a long-term opportunity for a seasoned security professional, ideally with a retired NYPD or comparable law-enforcement background. The household operates to a high standard of private service while maintaining a relatively informal, welcoming atmosphere. The family is seeking someone who can remain alert and decisive without creating an overly rigid, tactical, or conspicuous presence. A warm, polished manner with family members, guests, and staff is as important as sound security judgment.

The schedule is approximately 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, in 12-hour overnight shifts. The final schedule may be a consistent three-night rotation with weekend coverage, or a Sunday–Tuesday and Wednesday–Friday split with alternating Saturdays.

The role is primarily residence-based, with very little driving or ancillary household responsibility but must have willingness to help the team with occasional tasks. The individual will work independently for much of the overnight shift while communicating closely with the Estate Manager and the broader household team. This position is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys the security field and wants a stable residential assignment with a professional, collaborative staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide attentive overnight security coverage for the Manhattan residence
• Monitor entrances, the property, and surrounding areas for unusual or concerning activity
• Ensure the home remains secure throughout the night and arm the security system as appropriate
• Monitor arrivals and departures, providing light doorman-style assistance when needed
• Maintain awareness of family, staff, guest, and vendor activity within the residence
• Communicate with the Estate Manager and household staff about security matters, scheduling, and relevant incidents
• Respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies or unexpected situations
• Complete basic reporting and shift handoffs as requested
• Maintain strict discretion regarding the family, residences, guests, and household operations
• Remain alert and engaged during quiet periods when other household staff have departed

Requirements:

• Prior law-enforcement experience; retired NYPD experience is strongly preferred
• Relevant private household, residential security, executive protection, or institutional security experience
• Experience working 12-hour overnight shifts
• Strong situational awareness, sound judgment, and the ability to respond decisively when needed
• A calm, professional, and non-confrontational demeanor
• A polished, approachable manner with principals, children, staff, and guests
• An understanding of private-service standards and the importance of a low-profile presence
• Excellent communication skills, discretion, and confidentiality
• The ability to work independently while coordinating with a larger household team
• Weekend flexibility and a reliable, consistent work history

Compensation: $40–$45 per hour, depending on experience.
