About The Learning Lounge

The Learning Lounge is a private tutoring centre based in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, providing a professional, welcoming and distraction-free environment for students to learn, develop their skills and achieve their academic goals.

We are looking for passionate, knowledgeable and reliable private tutors to join our growing tutoring community. Whether you are an experienced teacher, an established private tutor or an educator looking to take on additional students outside your usual working hours, we would love to hear from you.

We are particularly interested in tutors specialising in 11+, SATs, Key Stage 1–5, GCSE subjects and after-school tuition, although tutors across other subjects and levels are also encouraged to apply.

Subjects and Specialisms We Are Looking For

We are particularly keen to hear from tutors specialising in:

• 11+ Entrance Exams – verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, English, Maths and exam preparation.
• Primary SATs – Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, including Year 6 SATs preparation.
• Key Stages 1–5 – primary and secondary curriculum support.
• GCSE English – Language and Literature.
• GCSE Maths – Foundation and Higher tiers.
• GCSE Science – Biology, Chemistry and Physics, including Combined Science.
• Computer Science – curriculum support, programming and examination preparation.
• After-School Tuition – teachers and tutors looking to offer additional tuition during weekday afternoons and evenings.
• Other Subjects and Levels – we welcome applications from tutors with expertise in other curriculum areas, qualifications and specialist subjects.

What We Offer

At The Learning Lounge, we give tutors the flexibility to manage their own tutoring activity while benefiting from the facilities and support of an established tuition centre.

Your own dedicated tutoring room

You will have access to your own designated tutoring room, providing a professional and comfortable setting for teaching. Rooms can accommodate one-to-one sessions or small groups of approximately 4–6 students, depending on the room and session requirements.

Set your own rates

You decide your tutoring rates. The Learning Lounge adds a separate fee to cover room management, student bookings, facilities and the administration involved in arranging your sessions. This allows you to focus on teaching while we help manage the practical side of running your tutoring sessions.

Choose your availability

Work around your existing commitments. Whether you are available for a few hours after school, evenings, weekends or during school holidays, we can discuss a schedule that suits your availability and the needs of our students.

Opportunities to teach one-to-one or small groups

Deliver personalised tuition or build small-group sessions in a supportive learning environment. Group tutoring provides an opportunity to help several students develop their understanding together.

Run your own mock examinations

We also offer tutors the opportunity to organise and manage mock tests and examination preparation sessions. This could include 11+ practice papers, SATs preparation, GCSE mock examinations and other subject-specific assessments.

Run Your Own Workshops

Have a passion or skill you would love to share with young people? We welcome tutors and workshop leaders who want to deliver engaging, creative and educational sessions at The Learning Lounge. From art and crafts to LEGO building, creative projects and specialist interest groups, we can accommodate a wide range of workshop ideas. Bring your enthusiasm, develop your own sessions and inspire young people in a supportive environment.

Professional facilities and resources

Our centre offers a dedicated teaching environment, printing and photocopying facilities, and complimentary hot beverages. Student bookings and room arrangements are supported by The Learning Lounge.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, high-quality one-to-one or small-group tutoring sessions.
• Plan lessons and prepare appropriate learning materials for your subject and students' abilities.
• Support students with curriculum learning, examination preparation, revision strategies and confidence-building.
• Monitor student progress and adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Organise and deliver mock tests or examination practice sessions where appropriate.
• Communicate professionally with parents and students regarding learning objectives and progress.
• Maintain a positive, professional and supportive learning environment.
• Manage your agreed availability and tutoring sessions reliably.

Qualified teachers, experienced private tutors, subject specialists and educators looking to supplement their existing income are all welcome to apply.

Relevant teaching qualifications and tutoring experience are advantageous. Applicants must be able to meet the appropriate safeguarding and suitability requirements for working with children.

Working Hours

We offer flexible availability throughout the week, with particular opportunities during:

• Monday to Friday: After-school sessions, typically from 3pm onwards.
• Saturday: Flexible daytime tutoring.
• Sunday: Flexible daytime tutoring.
• School holidays: Additional tuition and examination preparation opportunities, subject to demand.

How It Works

The Learning Lounge provides the tutoring space, facilities, booking arrangements and student administration support. Tutors deliver the teaching and manage their agreed sessions, with the opportunity to establish their own rates and develop their tutoring activity.

The tutor's rate and The Learning Lounge's additional room and management fee will be agreed transparently in advance, so the overall student price is clear.
