PRN Substitute Tutor – Leon County, FL

Job Overview

Acewall Scholars is seeking reliable, professional, and student-focused PRN Substitute Tutors to provide academic support to K–12 students in school-based settings throughout Leon County, Florida.

This position is designed for tutors who are available to step in and provide instructional support when a regularly assigned tutor is absent or when additional tutoring coverage is needed. Assignments are offered on an as-needed basis and may vary depending on school and program needs.

The ideal candidate has strong instructional skills in English/Phonics and Mathematics, is comfortable working with school-age students, and can quickly adapt to different classroom environments and student learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-person academic instruction and support to K–12 students during assigned school-day substitute assignments.
• Provide instruction and academic assistance in English/Phonics and Mathematics.
• Support students through one-on-one and small-group instruction, based on program and student needs.
• Follow lesson plans, instructional materials, and guidance provided for the assigned student or classroom.
• Reinforce classroom learning through individualized and small-group instructional strategies.
• Adapt instruction to students' academic levels, learning needs, and goals.
• Maintain a positive, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
• Follow school procedures, classroom expectations, and Acewall Scholars policies.
• Communicate professionally with teachers, school administrators, students, and Acewall Scholars staff.
• Monitor student participation and progress and maintain accurate tutoring documentation.
• Maintain student confidentiality and handle student information appropriately.
• Attend required training, meetings, and onboarding activities as assigned.
• Provide dependable coverage when scheduled for a substitute assignment.
• Arrive on time and be prepared to begin instruction at the assigned start time.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or working with school-age students.
• Strong instructional ability in English/Phonics and Mathematics.
• Ability to support students across K–12 grade levels.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.
• Ability to adapt instruction to different learning needs and academic levels.
• Ability to work effectively in a school environment and follow school expectations.
• Reliable, professional, punctual, and dependable.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience working with diverse student populations preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in Title I schools.
• Experience providing individualized or small-group academic interventions.
• Familiarity with evidence-based reading intervention strategies.
• Experience working with K–12 students in a school-based setting.
• Background in English/Phonics, Mathematics, or other core academic subjects.

Schedule & Hours

PRN / As-Needed School-Day Assignments

• School-based assignments in Leon County, FL
• Assignments may be offered Monday–Friday during school-day hours.
• Typical school-day coverage may fall within approximately 9:00 AM–2:30 PM, depending on the school and assignment.
• Assignments are based on school and program needs and are not guaranteed on a daily or weekly basis.
• Substitute tutors may receive assignments when coverage is needed for an absent tutor or additional instructional support is required.
• Advance notice may vary depending on the nature of the assignment.

Pay

$20.00–$25.00 per hour

Rate may vary based on assignment, qualifications, and program requirements.

Location

Leon County, Florida

This is an in-person, school-based position. Tutors must be able to reliably travel to assigned school locations within Leon County.
