Process Control Systems Engineer

Sibanye Stillwater Australia is currently seeking a Process Control Systems Engineer to join our Century Mine operations at Lawn Hill.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established site during an important period of change. Century Mine is approaching the final stages of hydro mining, with mine life currently through 2027, while also preparing for rehabilitation activities and the potential future development of phosphate operations.

The role is offered on a Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns on a 15/13 roster, based at Century Mine.

About the role
Reporting to the Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will develop and implement plans to improve the performance and reliability of control and information systems. You will maintain process control standards and procedures across plant equipment and infrastructure, helping the operation safely achieve production targets.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintain and improve process control systems supporting Century Mine and Karumba Port operations.
• Plan and execute work on Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
• Provide technical expertise, specialised maintenance and recommendations for plant and control-system improvements.
• Respond to breakdowns, complete corrective maintenance and identify opportunities to improve reliability.
• Investigate and resolve operational and technical equipment issues to minimise processing interruptions.
• Complete PLC programming, application development, testing, debugging and software maintenance.
• Configure, test and commission control-system equipment and support electrical design activities.
• Prepare and maintain specifications, diagrams, operator manuals, test plans and procedures.
• Plan and prioritise work, complete work orders, and provide clear technical reports and feedback.

About you
You are a practical and safety-focused controls professional with strong fault finding skills and the ability to manage changing priorities. You communicate clearly with technical and operational teams, work effectively with minimal supervision and contribute positively within a cross functional environment.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Two to four years’ demonstrated technical experience in a control-systems environment.
• Experience programming industrial controllers across a broad range of languages.
• Advanced control-systems problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and operational audiences.
• Experience in metallurgical simulation and process control.
• Advanced computer skills using engineering software applications and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
• Knowledge of data engineering or data science techniques will be highly regarded.

Essential requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or associate diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation or another relevant computing or engineering discipline.
• Current manual driver’s licence.
• Ability to work 15 days on, 13 days off FIFO roster from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns.
