Job Summary The Process Development Scientist, Flow Chemistry role will lead the development of advanced continuous-flow and intensified chemical processes that enable the production of next-generation OLED materials. This is a hands-on, laboratory-based role. The successful candidate will combine expertise in organic synthesis, flow chemistry, process engineering, and engineering design to develop safe, efficient, and scalable processes for strategically important OLED materials. From early-stage laboratory development through pilot-scale implementation and technology transfer, this role will play a key part in transforming innovative chemistry into robust processes that can be reliably and safely implemented at scale.

Success in this position requires strong technical leadership and a highly collaborative mindset. The role bridges R&D interfaces and operates at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, operations, EHS and quality. As such, the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams will be essential. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver, an effective communicator, and a team player who can influence outcomes through expertise, collaboration, and execution.

This role is central to UDC’s vision of building a world-class advanced process and product development capability. It offers a unique opportunity to shape future chemical production technologies, establish new process platforms, and contribute directly to the development and commercialization of innovative OLED materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and scale-up of continuous-flow and intensified chemical processes, transforming laboratory concepts into safe, robust, and commercially viable processes.
  • Drive process and reaction engineering excellence through the design, optimization, and implementation of scalable synthetic routes, flow reactor systems, and downstream processing strategies.
  • Develop the technical foundation for successful commercialization, including process design packages, operating windows, scale-up strategies, risk assessments, and technology transfer documentation.
  • Collaborate across R&D, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and EHS to advance strategic development programs, ensure process safety, and enable successful deployment of new technologies.
  • Provide technical leadership for equipment qualification, commissioning, technology transfer and process implementation.
  • Build organizational capability through problem solving, knowledge management, and mentorship, driving continuous improvement and fostering a culture of innovation, safety, and scientific rigor.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • Industrial experience developing and implementing chemical processes, with a track record of translating laboratory innovation into scalable processes.
  • Expertise in flow chemistry, continuous processes, process intensification, reaction engineering, or related technologies, with experience applying these approaches to solve complex chemical process challenges.
  • Strong understanding of process development fundamentals, including process safety, scale-up, heat and mass transfer, reaction optimization, and unit operations.
  • High level of proficiency in the application of modern analytical techniques (e.g., HPLC/UPLC, GC, MS, IR, NMR, etc.) to reaction/process monitoring, material characterization and structure elucidation.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical projects, including technology transfer, process documentation, and collaboration across R&D, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and EHS organizations.
  • Effective communicator and problem solver, capable of influencing diverse stakeholders through scientific rigor, data-driven decision making, and clear technical communication.
