What they need
We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer — a role known in some organisations as a Process Engineer — to own our manufacturing processes from drawing to finished part. Reporting to the Manufacturing Manager, you will define, develop and control the processes across our full production chain — laser cutting, CNC bending and folding, TIG, MIG and robot welding, deburring and edge finishing, 3-, 4- and 5-axis CNC machining, painting and surface treatment, and assembly, integration and functional testing — making sure that every part is produced to drawing, to cost and to schedule.
This is a hands-on role for an engineer who is comfortable on the shop floor, disciplined in documentation and record keeping, and able to prove the result of an improvement with before-and-after data.
Key Responsibilities
Act as process owner for manufacturing documentation — prepare, control and maintain routings, job packets, work instructions and control plans for every part manufactured on site, and control document changes so the shop floor always works to the current revision.
Define and optimise process parameters across the full process chain: laser cutting (cutting speed, laser power, assist gas, focal position and nesting to minimise material waste), CNC bending and folding (bend sequences, punch and die selection, bend allowance / K-factor and springback compensation), TIG, MIG and robot welding (welding procedure specifications, joint preparation, distortion control and weld acceptance criteria), deburring and edge finishing, and CNC machining (cutting tool selection, cutting conditions and workholding).
Establish and review standard times and cycle times for every process using time study, method study or machine data, and calculate part manufacturing cost — machine time, labour time, material utilisation and set-up time — to support RFQs.
Analyse capacity and line bottlenecks, propose ways to increase throughput without adding fixed cost, and reduce set-up and changeover time using SMED to support high-mix, low-volume production.
Lead New Product Introduction — from drawing review and process planning through trial production and first article manufacture to hand-over into series production.
Review customer drawings and provide design-for-manufacturing feedback — over-specified tolerances, material selection, part-count reduction and assembly simplification — and liaise with customer engineering and our Australian parent company on drawing changes and engineering change control.
Design, procure and validate jigs, fixtures and production aids that control quality and reduce process time.
Drive continuous improvement — analyse scrap and rework by process and by cause, run structured reduction projects, and apply 8D, 5-Why, fishbone, PFMEA, control plans, SPC and process capability studies (Cp / Cpk), together with lean tools: 5S, seven-waste elimination, kaizen, line balancing and layout / flow improvement.
Track and report manufacturing performance — OEE, output per hour, scrap rate and machine downtime — and support the resolution of customer and internal quality issues together with the Quality department.
Provide technical support and training to supervisors and operators across all processes, work with Maintenance on the selection, installation and commissioning of new machinery and on preventive maintenance plans, and support CAPEX proposals with payback analysis.
Work within the ISO 9001:2015 quality and ISO 14001:2015 environmental management systems — prepare evidence for certification body and customer audits, ensure safety risk assessments are performed for new processes at the RFQ stage, ensure appropriate PPE is in place (in particular for welding, grinding and deburring), and control industrial waste and process chemicals in line with the law.
Qualifications — Essential
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
Minimum 5 years' experience in manufacturing or process engineering within a manufacturing environment.
Direct experience in a sheet metal fabrication, welding or CNC machining environment.
Experience preparing manufacturing documentation, setting standard times, and designing jigs and fixtures.
Able to read and correctly interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and welding symbols.
Sound working knowledge of sheet metal processes — laser cutting, forming, welding and deburring.
Practical competence with CAD / CAM software — for example SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or laser nesting software.
Fluent spoken and written English — you will work with overseas customers and report to our Australian parent company.
Strong computer proficiency, particularly MS Excel and ERP systems.
Qualifications — Desirable
Professional engineering licence issued by the Council of Engineers, Thailand.
Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
ISO 9001:2015 or ISO 14001:2015 Internal Auditor certification.
Knowledge of welding standards — ISO 3834, AWS D1.1 / D1.2, ISO 9606 — and weld inspection.
Experience with new product introduction (NPI) and giving design-for-manufacturing feedback to customers.
Experience in contract manufacturing with high-mix, low-to-medium volume production.
Experience with robot welding programming and operation, or with installing, commissioning and automating production machinery.
Experience serving aerospace, industrial machinery, mobility, energy or semiconductor customers.
